Wolf-Gordon exhibits collection of statement wall coverings by Latin American artists

Wolf-Gordon, a US surface design brand, is currently exhibiting its 'El Muro' wall covering collection, featuring designs from seven artists of Latin American descent, at its head office until the end of the year. The collection was conceived as an exploration of identity, culture, and heritage through the lens of artists living on either side of the US-Mexico border, showcasing how their lived experiences influence their creative expression. Wolf-Gordon, which has been in operation for over 50 years, specializes in various surface designs including wall coverings, wall protection panels, paints, acoustic panels, and upholstery. Marybeth Shaw, Wolf-Gordon's chief creative officer, highlighted Mexico's rich visual culture, noting its historical role in transmitting traditions, life rhythms, and belief systems for thousands of years. She emphasized that themes such as cosmology, the persistence of dualities, and reverence for nature are deeply embedded in Mexican murals and patterns. Shaw provided the selected artists with a blank canvas, encouraging them to explore these themes without creative constraints. The artists chosen represent diverse disciplines, including painting, conceptual art, product design, ceramics, and textiles. Four of the contributing artists reside and work in Mexico: Rodrigo Lobato of Platalea Studio, Camila Apaez of Ila Ceramics, and artists Laura Noriega and Dyg'Nojoch. The other three artists, Blanka Amezkua, Monica Curiel, and Francisco Donoso, are of Mexican or Ecuadorian descent and are based in the US. Wolf-Gordon digitally printed their designs onto wall coverings, creating a cohesive collection that visually articulates the impact of living north or south of the US-Mexico border on their artistic identities and heritage. The collection features a range of distinct designs. Camila Apaez's "Frontiers" evokes the emotional experience of leaving something behind when crossing a border, using clay and oxides to create a sinuous design that symbolizes a divide. Dyg'Nojoch's "Iconografía y Flora Animal," painted in an expressive style, incorporates deer as spiritual guides, adorned with colorful flowers and patterns inspired by Mexican festivals and textiles from his region. Blanka Amezkua's "Echoes of the Codex de la Cruz-Badiano: A Floating Tapestry of Indigenous Medicinal Wisdom" features vibrant illustrations of medicinal plants, honoring Indigenous American botanical knowledge. Francisco Donoso's "Boundless" is a colorful and fluidly patterned wall covering created using layers of acrylic, spray paint, ink, and colored pencils on mylar. Monica Curiel's "Barro Blanco" draws from memories of her father's work on construction sites, resulting in a textured design that depicts layered plaster sheets and Roman clay. Rodrigo Lobato's "Fulgor/Glare" is a blue wall covering adorned with roses, feathers, and stars, reflecting Mexican religious symbolism. Laura Noriega's "Violet Spring" is inspired by Jacaranda trees, depicting their bright purple flower petals. The El Muro collection was previously showcased at the HD Expo in Las Vegas earlier in the year and will continue to be displayed at Wolf-Gordon's New York City headquarters through December. These wall coverings, part of the brand's Curated Collection, are designed for use as statement feature walls, headboards, or desk frontages in various commercial, hospitality, or office interior settings. #WolfGordon #WallCoverings #ElMuroCollection #LatinAmericanArt #SurfaceDesign #InteriorDesign #CulturalIdentity #MexicanArt #DesignExhibition #WolfGordon #WallCoverings #ElMuroCollection #LatinAmericanArt #SurfaceDesign #InteriorDesign #CulturalIdentity #MexicanArt #DesignExhibition
