To anticipate the next significant shift in hardware, insights from four design professionals were gathered. One emerging perspective suggests a move towards the elimination of hardware altogether. Advances in soft-close mechanisms for both drawers and doors are increasingly enabling designers and consumers to opt for handle-less cabinetry. This approach shifts the visual focus away from hardware, instead highlighting the inherent details, materials, and colors of the furniture itself, thereby making a distinct and minimalist statement within a space. Another prediction points to a resurgence of silvery tones. Designers are observing a growing weariness of brass finishes, leading to an exploration of alternatives such as pewter. Nickel, in both brushed and chrome variations, is being utilized in kitchen and bathroom projects. This material is lauded for its timeless and classic qualities, offering an elegant contrast when paired with bold tiles or darker-toned stone and cabinetry, allowing the hardware to stand out. Finally, gunmetal finishes are gaining traction as a sophisticated alternative. This material is appreciated for its unique depth, bridging the chromatic gap between black and bronze.
