Get to Know: Interior Designer Lauren Clement
Lauren Clement, the award-winning designer and owner of Lauren Nicole Designs, has cultivated a significant reputation in the interior design industry over the past decade. Her work is characterized by creating spaces that are comfortable, stylish, and functional. Clement's achievements include receiving the Best of Houzz award in the design category for seven consecutive years, being a featured designer at the Charlotte Southern Ideal Home Show, and earning Charlotte magazine's Best of the Best for home accessories in 2016. She is based in Waxhaw, NC, and is married with two children.
Clement's passion for interior design is a continuation of a family tradition, as her mother, Linda Riddiough, also works in the field. Clement initially pursued clinical psychology in graduate school but ultimately felt a strong pull towards design, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and inspired by her mother's expertise. Despite her proficiency in designing kitchens, Clement humorously admits she rarely uses one for cooking.
Her design philosophy incorporates elements that add a touch of glamour and personality to a space. She particularly favors lighting, referring to it as the "jewelry of any space," highlighting its importance in her designs. Currently, green is a prominent color in her aesthetic preferences, appearing in paint, greenery, fabrics, and artwork, with plans to integrate even more shades of green into her 2019 projects.
Clement has expanded her creative endeavors by collaborating with Magnolia Paint Company in South End to develop three custom Benjamin Moore paint colors: Stoney Knoll, Sugar Cube, and Fresh Fennel. Her goal was to formulate unique colors that were not readily available on the market, offering intelligent neutrals and vibrant pops of color suitable for walls, trim, and even furniture. These custom colors are accessible for purchase on her website.
Outside of her professional life, Clement is an avid equestrian, a passion she has pursued since childhood and now shares with her daughters. This interest in equestrian style subtly influences her design choices. Clement also actively participates in significant industry events. She has substantial plans for the High Point Market, where she will design a tabletop setting with Replacements LTD in the Alden Parks showroom and serve as one of Fabricut's first brand ambassadors.
Additionally, Clement's work will be featured in New York City at Design on a Dime, a charitable event benefiting Housing Works, an organization dedicated to combating AIDS and homelessness. As the sole designer from North Carolina invited to this event, she will create a distinctive room vignette using donated merchandise from renowned home décor brands, showcasing her design prowess for a philanthropic cause.
