Lefant M1 Robot Vacuum and Mop review
The Lefant M1 Robot Vacuum and Mop is an automated, app-enabled, multi-surface robotic cleaning system that combines vacuuming and mopping functionalities. This review explores its features, design, setup process, and performance based on user experience. The device sports a minimalist, disk-shaped design, predominantly white, with an all-black alternative also available. Its top features an LED indicator for Wi-Fi connection, along with three control buttons for fixed-point cleaning, stopping/pausing, and returning to the charging station. A silver-topped disk houses the LIDAR navigation sensors, which are crucial for mapping and systematic cleaning. An on/off switch is located on its side for manual control.
Beneath the robot, the suction and locomotion mechanisms are housed. A wide "universal wheel" provides 360-degree steering, flanked by metallic charging electrodes and anti-falling sensors to prevent tumbles from steps. Four side brushes, including two spares, snap onto posts on the underside. These brushes feature long, whisker-like bristles that spin to dislodge dust and debris, funneling them towards the vacuum's suction. The central hub of each brush is silicone-coated to protect hard floors. Two large drive wheels with thick, soft-lugged tread provide traction across various surfaces, from hard floors to carpets. These wheels are mounted on spring-loaded armatures, acting as shock absorbers for stable movement.
The Lefant M1 includes a roller brush centrally located on its underside, designed to scoop debris into the dustbin. The roller brush's top cover is removable, facilitating easy cleaning and preventing clogs. The dustbin, located at the back, is accessible via a clamshell design and contains a filter net that secures both a sponge filter and a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. A blue silicone flap on the dustbin's end provides access to a water tank for the mopping function. The device comes with a mopping module that attaches to the rear underside, where a reusable mop cloth is secured with Velcro and elastic loops.
Setting up the Lefant M1 primarily involves its mobile application, compatible with iOS and Android devices. Users can download the app by scanning a QR code or searching their app store. The app guides the user through connecting the robot to a 2.4G or hybrid 2.4G/5G Wi-Fi network, which is essential as it does not support 5G. Once connected, the robot can be personalized with a name, and its cleaning operations can be controlled from the main screen.
Performance-wise, the Lefant M1 utilizes LIDAR navigation technology and "Freemove 3.0" for comprehensive home mapping. Upon its initial activation, the robot builds a real-time map of the home's layout visible in the app, followed by systematic, tight, and consistent cleaning paths. The robot's compact size allows it to navigate under furniture and around tight corners effectively. However, the initial attempt to move off the docking station presented a challenge, which was resolved by removing the mopping module. An issue arose with the "Partition cleaning" feature, which was intended to restrict or direct cleaning to specific areas; it failed to compel the robot to clean the kitchen's linoleum floor, despite the area being mapped. Eventually, the robot independently cleaned the kitchen. The mopping module's effectiveness could not be fully assessed due to this issue. The dustbin proved efficient at collecting dust and pet hair, and its design allows for easy removal and cleaning. The Lefant M1 offers up to 150 minutes of run time, covering approximately 2150 square feet, which is sufficient for many homes, though a full charge can take over five hours.
