Elipson Infinite INF6 and INF8: in-ceiling cinema speakers
Elipson, a French audio specialist, has expanded its Elipson Infinite range of cinema speakers with the introduction of two new in-ceiling models: the Elipson Infinite INF6 and Elipson Infinite INF8. These speakers are designed for seamless integration into home theater setups, particularly for reproducing advanced audio formats like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, or Auro 3D. They combine the robust technologies characteristic of the Infinite range with a discreet, ceiling-mountable form factor.
The existing Elipson Infinite series already includes the Elipson Infinite 8 and Elipson Infinite 14 speakers, which are versatile enough for wall mounting or integration into partitions. These models can serve as front, center, surround, and even Atmos speakers, offering direct sound diffusion, including through acoustically transparent projection screens. The range also features the Elipson Infinite S12 passive subwoofer, designed for wall-mounting or partition integration, and ideally paired with the Elipson Infinite A1000 power amplifier, which delivers 1000 watts into 4 ohms. The addition of the INF6 and INF8 models provides an even more integrated solution, ensuring that sound effects can be optimally distributed from the ceiling without visible speaker enclosures.
A key design element across the Elipson Infinite series is the focus on exceptional power handling, crucial for rendering the dynamic soundtracks of movies and series. Elipson addresses this by utilizing a unique cone material for its midbass drivers. This cone is crafted from carbon fibers combined with polymethylacrylamide (PDMA) foam, a blend chosen for its optimal balance of lightness and rigidity. This construction maximizes power handling, allowing for significantly higher sound levels while maintaining precise control and clarity. The midbass driver sizes vary slightly across the range: 6.7 inches for the Infinite 8 and Infinite 14, 6.2 inches for the Infinite INF6, and 7.9 inches for the Infinite INF8. The consistent use of this composite driver material across all speakers in the range ensures excellent tonal coherence, a vital aspect for an immersive home theater experience.
Further enhancing the speakers' performance is an improved tweeter design. The Elipson Infinite 8 and Infinite 14 feature a 1-inch ring-type tweeter capable of handling high power and reaching very high frequencies. For the new in-ceiling INF6 and INF8 models, Elipson has developed a new titanium dome tweeter. The INF6 uses a 0.75-inch tweeter, while the INF8 features a 1-inch version. A notable feature of these new tweeters is their adjustability; they can be oriented up to 30 degrees in any direction. This adjustability is critical for directing sound effects accurately, ensuring optimal propagation and a tailored audio experience regardless of the speaker's specific placement within the room. This flexibility allows for precise sound staging and an immersive auditory environment, completing Elipson's vision for a fully integrated, high-performance private cinema setup where all audio components blend seamlessly into the room's architecture.
