His ingenuity led him to combine two Skådis pegboards to create a single, taller unit. To connect these two pegboards securely, he opted for sturdy metal mending plates, overlapping the gap between them, rather than the less robust IKEA connectors. This choice emphasized durability and structural integrity for the combined unit. The next critical step involved making this integrated pegboard system easily accessible within the confined laundry closet. This was achieved by mounting the pegboards onto a pair of soft-close drawer slides, allowing the entire unit to be pulled out for access and then smoothly pushed back into the narrow space. Installing the sliding mechanism required precision, particularly due to the tight space. Wang used a laser level to accurately mark the mounting points for the drawer tracks on the wall. He also employed an angle attachment for his electric drill, which proved essential for working in such a restricted area. A key learning point from the installation process was the importance of using a leveler to ensure perfect alignment of the slider rails, as a slight misalignment during an initial attempt necessitated re-drilling. Once the tracks were securely anchored and screwed into place, the pegboard assembly could be slid onto them, confirming the functionality of the movable storage system. With the pegboard system in place, the final step focused on organization. Wang utilized various IKEA Skådis accessories to arrange his cleaning supplies effectively. Hooks were used for hanging longer, awkward items like steam cleaner attachments, dusters, and Swiffer Sweepers. Larger storage baskets were employed for heavier items such as laundry detergent, while smaller clips proved ideal for lightweight rags. This systematic approach maximized the storage capacity of the formerly underutilized space, keeping cleaning tools neatly stored and readily available. The implemented storage solution significantly improved the functionality of the laundry closet, turning it into a highly efficient and organized space. Wang noted the convenience of being able to easily access his cleaning tools by simply sliding out the pegboard. While minor adjustments, such as securing larger broomsticks more firmly to prevent shifting, are still being considered, the overall design is deemed a success.
