6 Top 2026 Home Design Trends From High Point Market Experts

The article summarizes six prominent home design trends identified by industry professionals at the Fall High Point Market, a significant event for home furnishings. The trends emphasize wellness, functionality, and technological integration within residential design. Six experts provided their insights based on observations from the market. One key trend is the enhanced focus on kitchen and bath design. Ferguson Home, a major product retailer, debuted at the market, highlighting the growing importance of these areas. Paula C. Kennedy and Sharon Sherman, both kitchen and bath specialists, noted the increasing presence of manufacturers and educational programs tailored to these categories, attracting new designers to the market. Another significant trend is the increasing focus on wellness across all aspects of home design. Alena Capra, a seasoned High Point attendee, observed a strong emphasis on creating serene spaces. Caroline Danielson, from Ferguson, highlighted discussions around natural and sustainable materials, refined details, sculptural lighting mimicking natural rhythms, and spa-inspired fixtures. She noted the demand for products that balance beauty with well-being, including antimicrobial surfaces, circadian lighting, and enhanced appliances for improved indoor air quality. Sherman also pointed to the rise of biophilic design elements, such as natural materials and forms, and solutions for noise reduction. Capra further detailed the biophilic design trend, mentioning the use of natural materials like travertine stone and wood in various furnishings, woven textures in vanities, and decorative elements like agates and selenite crystals. The integration of comfortable and ergonomic furnishings, including massage chairs, also reflects this wellness-oriented approach. Enhanced functionality and comfort represent a third major trend. Interior designer Cheryl Clendenon emphasized designing for ease and simplifying life, citing products like furniture with integrated storage to reduce clutter, items that do not emit harmful toxins, and performance fabrics that are easy to maintain. Clendenon also observed a demand for comfortable furnishings in gathering spaces, such as "loungier" sectionals, and pet-friendly amenities. Improved lighting is identified as a fourth trend, with Danielson noting designers' exploration of how material, tone, and illumination can influence emotion. Fixtures featuring rope or woven plant fibers, warm metals, and hand-textured finishes contribute to a soothing, natural ambiance, reflecting a blend of craftsmanship and innovation aimed at creating calm living spaces. The fifth trend focuses on enhanced fixtures in the bath and kitchen. Danielson highlighted new fixtures and surfaces that emphasize water as an experience, promoting sustainability and tactile materials that invite pause and rejuvenation. This points to a broader desire for interiors that restore and ground the senses through natural and sustainable choices. Finally, tech-enhanced features are a pervasive trend. The article mentions integrated device charging and circadian lighting as examples. Kennedy specifically noted lighting controls that enhance wellness while reducing visual clutter from multiple switches. Lutron, a leading technology brand, returned to High Point after a 12-year absence, showcasing tunable lighting and automated window treatments that integrate smart home technology with interior design. Melissa Andresko, Lutron's chief corporate brand ambassador, stated that these solutions help homeowners and designers optimize natural light and create balanced, restorative environments, indicating a shift towards human-centric living. Clendenon concluded that well-functioning spaces reduce stress and contribute to comfort and joy, aligning with the core principles of wellness design. #HighPointMarket #HomeDesignTrends #InteriorDesign #WellnessDesign #SmartHomeFeatures #BiophilicDesign #KitchenAndBath #LightingDesign #HomeFurnishings #HighPointMarket #HomeDesignTrends #InteriorDesign #WellnessDesign #SmartHomeFeatures #BiophilicDesign #KitchenAndBath #LightingDesign #HomeFurnishings
