Fit to be tiled
Ayala Land has entered the tile business through a partnership with Nenking Group of Foshan, a city known for its long ceramic tradition. This collaboration has led to the establishment of Esta Galleria, a 745-square-meter showroom designed by architect Conrad Onglao, located in Glorietta 3. The showroom distinguishes itself by showcasing tile applications in various room settings, such as kitchens, bathrooms, living and dining areas, bedrooms, and outdoor spaces, rather than simply displaying stacks of tiles.
The partnership originated in 2007 when Nenking Group collaborated with Ayala Land on a residential project in Foshan, China. Impressed by the quality of Nenking's tiles, Ayala Land decided to bring these products to the Philippines. The Esta Galleria venture involves significant figures from Ayala Land, including president and COO Fernando Zobel de Ayala and president and CEO Bobby Dy, indicating the strategic importance of this new business for the company. Rowena Tomeldan, Esta Galleria chairman and a key figure in Ayala Malls' expansion, highlights that these tiles will be integrated into future Ayala Land projects.
Nenking Group, a Chinese conglomerate, has diverse interests in real estate, property management, financial services, international investments, and pharmaceuticals. Esta Galleria focuses on wholesale operations, targeting architects, designers, contractors, and developers rather than individual homeowners. The showroom serves as a space where these professionals can bring their clients to visualize and select tile options.
Esta Galleria tiles are manufactured in Foshan, leveraging traditional tile-making expertise combined with modern technology. The products are exported to 120 countries, underscoring their global appeal and adherence to international standards. Architect Conrad Onglao's design for the showroom aims to demonstrate that tiles, often perceived as a budget-friendly option, can be a high-end material suitable for luxurious homes and buildings. He emphasizes the advanced characteristics of these tiles, noting their thinness, durability, and resistance to breakage. The showroom is conceived as a comprehensive resource, offering guidance on tile cutting and treatment, and supplying necessary materials like grout and cement.
Esta Galleria tiles are recognized for their strength and refined finishes, produced in 10 large manufacturing plants utilizing advanced Italian and Spanish press machines and ink-jet printing technology. Gabby Katigbak, Esta Galleria general manager, states that the brand stands for quality, durability, and excellence, offering a continuously expanding selection from essential to unique and handmade designs. The product range includes porcelain, cement, and stone, with options featuring wood designs. Porcelain tiles are particularly highlighted for their durability, low water absorption, and resistance to acids and alkalis, which help maintain color integrity.
The tiles are available in versatile colors like white, cream, black, gray, and brown, and are notable for their large sizes, including 1.2x2.4 meters. The premium BIG+ series, featuring Italian design elements and eight-channel ink-jet technology, recreates the natural texture of stone and intricate spatial patterns. The V-LIFE collection, including the Loft Line, utilizes high-standard porcelain antique technology to create soft, glossy surfaces with unique shapes and a slim 7.5mm thickness, making them lightweight and elegant. The production process involves powerful 16,800-ton pressing machines, significantly stronger than standard machines, and the tiles are sealed with Torrecid, a high-quality ink and glaze from Spain. The showroom, located on the third floor of Glorietta 3 in Makati City, also features works by wire sculptor and furniture designer Ann Pamintuan, enhancing the aesthetic experience.
