Top trending #sustainableliving materials to use in your bathroom
The growing interest in sustainable living is influencing interior design choices, particularly for bathroom renovations. With over 7 million Instagram hashtags for #sustainableliving, luxury bathroom specialists Big Bathroom Shop analyzed hashtag data to identify the most popular eco-friendly materials. Rikki Fothergill, a bathroom style expert, notes that spring is an opportune time for consumers to make greener decisions in home renovation, emphasizing that selecting products made from sustainable materials is a straightforward way to create an environmentally conscious and stylish space.
The analysis revealed five top eco-friendly materials based on their Instagram hashtag counts. Ceramic leads with over 8.2 million hashtags. This material, composed of natural substances like clay, powders, earthen elements, and water, is a popular choice for contemporary bathroom design. As spring progresses, incorporating bolder colors such as lemon yellow and azure blue in ceramic tiles or opting for heavy-duty ceramic basins can create a striking and modern aesthetic.
Steel ranks second with over 5.4 million hashtags. Known as one of the world's most recycled substances, steel is a highly sustainable option. For bathrooms, steel can be utilized in freestanding tubs, complemented by darker color schemes like deep bronze and stone grey, to achieve a luxurious boutique hotel ambiance.
Bamboo, securing over 4.5 million hashtags, is a highly renewable material that grows without fertilizers and regenerates from its roots. Integrating bamboo or rattan pieces, paired with greenery or sleek finishes, allows homeowners to bring a fresh, natural look into their bathroom spaces, regardless of size.
Brass, with more than 4.2 million hashtags, is another eco-friendly choice due to its infinite recyclability. Brass offers longevity and timeless appeal. Subtle brushed brass fixtures, including taps, bath feet, vanity legs, and light switches, can introduce warmth into a bathroom. For a spring-inspired look, brass can be effectively combined with lighter shades of blue, grey, or terracotta.
Finally, reclaimed wood, with over 2.1 million hashtags, is an excellent sustainable option as it reduces deforestation by reusing existing timber. Incorporating reclaimed wood into a bathroom can create a farmhouse aesthetic. Varying shades of oak can be used for wall paneling and weathered-looking flooring, while pale neutrals and bright white walls ensure a bright, airy, and natural environment.
These materials offer diverse aesthetic and functional benefits while contributing to a more sustainable home. Homeowners planning bathroom updates can consider these options to align their design choices with environmental consciousness.
