Wellness bathroom ideas – 9 elegant spaces that provide a multisensory experience

This article explores nine elegant and luxurious wellness bathroom ideas, focusing on creating a multisensory experience for relaxation and rejuvenation. It emphasizes the importance of material selection in transforming a bathroom into a spa-like retreat. According to Graff CEO Ziggy Kulig, wellness and self-care are increasingly vital in today's fast-paced world, and a blissful spa bathroom can significantly boost well-being. Holger Struck from Dornbracht highlights that the ideal wellness experience is subjective, varying from spacious open shower areas to cozy enclosed spaces with bathtubs. The first idea suggests embracing space, particularly in master bathrooms. An example from That Home Studio in Barcelona showcases how high ceilings, large windows, and a walk-in shower can be utilized. The design integrates fluted timber, bouclé upholstery, and carved mirror frames to soften hard surfaces and enhance luxury. Painting the ceiling in a dark color, like terracotta, can create a more intimate atmosphere by visually lowering imposing ceiling heights. The second concept focuses on curating a space for extended lingering, advocating for upholstered seating in modern bathrooms. This allows for comfortable activities such as painting toenails or waiting for a face mask to set, offering a more decadent experience than perching on a toilet seat. A featured bathroom includes a generous conversation seat upholstered in vintage striped fabric, encouraging shared pampering sessions. The third idea delves into maximizing smaller spaces for wellness. Interior designer Natascha Dartnall from ND Studios recommends incorporating hidden storage and mirrors to create a sense of space and light. Double basins are also suggested for a touch of luxury without requiring excessive room. A practical tip includes transferring lotions and potions into glass bottles to elevate the aesthetic. Bringing nature indoors is the fourth idea, with Barrie Cutchie from BC Designs emphasizing the positive impact of natural materials like wood on mental health. Teak, known for its water resistance and aging properties, is highlighted as an excellent choice for bathrooms, contributing to Japanese-influenced aesthetics. The fifth point focuses on incorporating curves, using a basement wet room project by Barlow & Barlow as an example. A curved ceiling and crackle-glaze tiles create a cocooning, sanctuary-like setting, enhanced by bespoke diffuser lighting and practical half-height shower screens. The sixth idea promotes remaining neutral, particularly with white-on-white color schemes, to quiet the mind. It advises using off-white surfaces with tactile appeal, such as zellige tiles, which celebrate imperfections and shimmer light. GRT Architects' project demonstrates how defining wet and dry areas and adding a built-in shower seat contribute to a tranquil atmosphere. The seventh idea emphasizes the importance of lighting. Sally Storey from John Cullen Lighting suggests using low-level LED strips and low-glare floor lights to create atmospheric, spa-like magic, adjustable via a control panel. Harnessing healing color, or chromotherapy, is the eighth idea. Depending on the shade, colors are believed to invigorate or soothe the senses. Integrating color-changing lights in showers can enhance well-being, with warm colors for morning revitalization and cool colors for bedtime wind-down. Finally, the ninth idea suggests creating a restful retreat, like a cool, dark room, using oversized porcelain tiles with textured finishes and underfloor heating. Stepping up the bath's level adds ceremony, and vertical blinds provide privacy and diffuse daylight for a calming effect. Paul Bailey from Grohe notes that minimalist design and essential oils can further enhance a zen bathroom experience. #WellnessBathroom #SpaDesign #InteriorDesign #BathroomRemodel #RelaxationSpace #HomeDecor #LuxuryBathrooms #NaturalMaterials #LightingDesign #WellnessBathroom #SpaDesign #InteriorDesign #BathroomRemodel #RelaxationSpace #HomeDecor #LuxuryBathrooms #NaturalMaterials #LightingDesign
