Make Your Home a Work of Art with the Scalamandré x Met Collaboration

Scalamandré, a renowned American textile brand, has launched a new collection in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), drawing inspiration from various curatorial departments including Arms and Armor, Islamic Art, and The Costume Institute. This partnership, which officially launched on October 1st, granted Scalamandré full access to The Met's extensive art inventory and archives to create luxury finishes, wallcoverings, trimmings, and fabrics with unique textures and detailing. The initiative began two years prior when The Met's licensing committee sought to broaden its brand presence beyond its gallery walls. A significant portion of the collection takes cues from the museum’s Department of Arms and Armor. Lorraine Lang, Scalamandré’s executive vice president of design, noted that the highly detailed engravings on the armor of mounted horses in the galleries provided decorative possibilities. This particular line of wallcoverings, trimmings, and fabrics contrasts hard and soft, shiny and matte, and feminine and masculine elements. Materials used include metallic cork, embroidered linen, faux leather, and polymer. Lang highlighted the Milan Diamond wallcovering, known for its sunburst pattern, and the Knight wallcovering, praised for its patinated 3D effect, as personal favorites. Further inspiration from the armor collection includes the Saxony Scroll Wallcoverings and Saxony Embellished Trimming, which feature embroidered designs reminiscent of the breastplate detailing found on the “Foot-Combat Armor Of Prince-Elector Christian I Of Saxony” by Anton Peffenhauser. These embroidered backed linen fabrics provide a softer, more formal aesthetic, akin to a scrolled damask, recommended for grand foyers or dining rooms to evoke a stately ambiance. This is not the first collaboration between Scalamandré and The Met; Franco Scalamandré, the brand's founder, established a Scalamandré Museum in the 1970s, donating several historic textiles to The Met's archives. The current collection is as diverse and global as the museum itself, featuring a colorful adaptation of the Tree of Life pattern from the Department of Asian Art, hand-block printed wallpaper inspired by the Islamic art collection, and elegantly embroidered tape derived from European sculpture and decorative arts. The full collection is available for viewing on scalamandre.com, offering consumers the opportunity to incorporate museum-inspired art into their home decor. #ScalamandreMetCollaboration #TextileDesign #InteriorDesign #LuxuryFinishes #Wallcoverings #HomeDecor #ArtInspired #ArchitecturalAntiques #DesignHistory #ScalamandreMetCollaboration #TextileDesign #InteriorDesign #LuxuryFinishes #Wallcoverings #HomeDecor #ArtInspired #ArchitecturalAntiques #DesignHistory
