How Sarsen Stone's National Trust range offers tiles for every style
Sarsen Stone Group, encompassing brands like Ca' Pietra and Artisans of Devizes, has partnered with the National Trust to launch a new tile collection. This collaboration has resulted in 10 distinct tile ranges, drawing inspiration from the diverse properties, gardens, coastlines, and countryside maintained by the National Trust. The creative director of Ca' Pietra, Hamish Smith, highlighted the motivation behind this partnership, noting the National Trust's status as a major conservation charity in Europe and its profound significance to many individuals. Smith explained that he believed the natural beauty and historical essence preserved by the Trust could be effectively translated into stone and tile designs, leading him to initiate contact with the organization.
The process of selecting specific inspirations for the tile designs involved close collaboration with the National Trust's knowledgeable team. While numerous areas within the Trust's care offered inspiration, the team worked to distill these inspirations into a cohesive collection that would resonate with consumers. Site visits to various properties were undertaken to gain a deeper understanding of the environments, which then informed the design process, integrating industry expertise with the natural and historical elements. The objective was to create a collection that captures the essence of these cherished locations while also appealing to contemporary tastes.
The tile collection not only pays tribute to the National Trust's heritage but also incorporates current interior design trends. For instance, the 'Shoreline' range, inspired by the 780 miles of coastline overseen by the National Trust, features versatile pastel shades, aligning with a popular trend. Similarly, 'Woodland Glade' offers botanical printed tiles in a hexagonal design, drawing inspiration from the seasonal flora of Winkworth Arboretum, and tapping into the growing interest in biophilic design. Other ranges include materials that cater to trends for rustic aesthetics and architecturally inspired interiors, providing options for a variety of design preferences.
The collection also includes designs such as 'Dyrham Dairy,' which was inspired by original Delft tiles found in the basement dairy of Dyrham Park, and 'Alfriston Clergy,' influenced by the Alfriston Clergy House. 'Brewhouse' comprises hardwearing porcelain tiles with an aged terracotta feel, named after the Brewhouse at Moseley Old Hall in Staffordshire. These examples demonstrate the depth and variety of historical and natural inspirations woven into the collection.
Regarding distribution, the National Trust tile collection, licensed under Sarsen Stone Group, is available through Ca’ Pietra. The company emphasizes a focus on the quality of retail partnerships rather than sheer quantity. They seek to collaborate with showrooms that understand and appreciate the brand's values, aiming for a true partnership. Retailers have the option to sell this specific National Trust collection independently of other Ca’ Pietra products, as they are presented as standalone brands. The goal is to partner with businesses that share the same passion and vision for the collection, ensuring its successful reach and impact. A minimum of £10,000 from the sales of this collection will be donated to the National Trust to support its ongoing conservation efforts for historic properties and landscapes.
