This Parkdale Bathroom Feels Like a Nordic Spa

This article highlights the transformation of a bathroom in a renovated 1900s bay-and-gable home in Parkdale into a Scandinavian-inspired spa retreat. Design Architecture Everyday spearheaded the redesign, which involved incorporating a space-doubling addition to create a serene and functional master suite. The new master suite divides its footprint almost equally between sleeping and bathing quarters, demonstrating an efficient use of space within the renovated structure. The bathroom, measuring 12.5 square metres, adheres to Nordic design principles. It features materials like soothing maple and white oak cladding from floor to ceiling, contributing to a calm and natural aesthetic. The design includes both monolithic forms and intricate detailing, adding depth and visual interest to the space. A notable feature is the sliding barn door, constructed by M-Squared Contracting, which encloses the bathroom and steps up from the bedroom area. Inside the bathroom, a half-wall, distinctively painted periwinkle on one side, serves to separate the shower area from the bathtub. This design element adds a subtle pop of color while maintaining the minimalist Scandinavian style. The room emphasizes texture, with elements such as heated floors and a matte-porcelain-clad vanity. The inclusion of subtly nubby, dot-patterned tiles further enhances the tactile experience, providing an alternative to conventional smooth, potentially slippery bathroom surfaces.
