These sculptural bathrooms are all whispered elegance carved in stone: Salvatori’s new showcase

Natural stone specialist Salvatori unveiled its latest collections, 'Nereo' and 'Nagi,' at Milan Design Week 2025, showcasing innovative applications of natural stone in bathroom design. The Tuscany-based brand is renowned for transforming ancient materials into contemporary, almost weightless designs, blending beauty with functionality and innovation. Their annual showcase takes place at their showroom in Via Solferino 11, located in Milan’s Brera district, within a Milanese palazzo that overlooks an inner courtyard. Elisa Ossino, an architect and interior designer, created the 'Nereo' bathroom collection, drawing inspiration from the Nereids, sea nymphs from Greek mythology. This collection aims to capture the fluidity of water within the solid form of stone, establishing a dialogue between movement and permanence. The 'Nereo' collection features wall-mounted vanity units that offer various configurations, including options for an integrated basin, a countertop basin, or a basin-free surface, providing versatility for different design preferences. Ossino describes the collection as both sculptural and timeless, offering a modern interpretation of classicism while emphasizing the inherent beauty of the material. She notes that the form is minimal and simplified, yet the material's power is enhanced by its generous dimensions. A key design element of 'Nereo' is its rounded countertop and the curves extending along the unit's sides, which introduce a sense of softness to the solid stone. The integrated sink, carved from a single block, exemplifies Salvatori's advanced technological capabilities combined with deep traditional knowledge of stone craftsmanship. Gabriele Salvatori, the CEO, highlights the challenge of creating a solid marble sink due to its weight and the integration of highly engineered, customizable drawers with hidden handles. This approach evokes the timeless energy and presence of old country house sinks, which were often carved directly from marble, a practice that evolved as marble processing shifted towards slabs and fragmentation over time. Ossino reflects on the emotional journey of this project, from its meticulous design to its revelation from a block of stone, stating that the material feels like a sculpture rather than a mere functional object when treated with such care. The 'Nereo' collection is available in a diverse palette of stones, including Bianco Carrara, Crema d'Orcia Aura, Verde Antico, and Verde Guatemala, offering a range of aesthetic choices. Complementing the 'Nereo' collection is 'Nagi,' a new marble surface designed by Canadian duo Yabu Pushelberg. 'Nagi' features delicate ripples, a texture that mimics the wavy patterns created when a stone disrupts still water. This design serves as a meditation on movement and a tribute to the serene rhythm of water, elegantly rendered in natural stone. The name 'Nagi' itself is a Japanese word signifying the calm or stillness of the sea, reinforcing the tranquil theme. Salvatori explains that the challenge in creating 'Nagi' was to interpret these ripples without making the design appear banal or repetitive, resulting in an elegant pattern that creates an almost flowing effect. 'Nagi' is highly versatile, as it can be installed horizontally or vertically, allowing for dynamic compositions and arrangements, with its short edges aligning seamlessly. The green palette, reminiscent of Piero Portaluppi's iconic green, introduces a new material, Verde Antico, which transports viewers back in time. Salvatori's showcase at Milan Design Week 2025 emphasizes their continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of natural stone design, creating pieces that are both functional art and enduring expressions of craftsmanship and innovation. #MilanDesignWeek #Salvatori #NaturalStone #BathroomDesign #ElisaOssino #YabuPushelberg #SculpturalDesign #InteriorDesign #StoneCraftsmanship #MilanDesignWeek #Salvatori #NaturalStone #BathroomDesign #ElisaOssino #YabuPushelberg #SculpturalDesign #InteriorDesign #StoneCraftsmanship
