The 'Sunday Reset' for Interiors, According to Designers

The concept of a ‘Sunday Reset’ extends beyond typical household chores like laundry and meal preparation to include design-driven tasks that refresh a home's aesthetic and atmosphere. Interior designers advocate for integrating small, impactful rituals into the weekly routine to foster a sense of balance and calm, preparing both the living space and its inhabitants for the upcoming week. These tasks are framed not as arduous chores but as pleasurable activities that enhance the emotional and visual quality of a home. One significant ritual involves regularly changing a piece of art. Rotating artwork, whether it's a family photo, a small print, a postcard, or even a magazine clipping, introduces new visual interest and evokes memories or anticipation. This simple act can shift the mood of a room, providing a fresh focal point that connects individuals to past joys or future plans. Leah Hook, founder of Gray Oak Studio, emphasizes that this practice helps build a collection of images reflecting personal memories and current moods, ultimately stirring a smile and a sense of presence. Another effective technique is creating a 'scent scene' for the week. Elizabeth Valkovics, founder of Batten Court Design, suggests choosing a consistent scent profile each Sunday and styling it intentionally with elements like a candle, a decorative dish, or a diffuser with greenery. This practice serves as an emotional transition, not only preparing the house but also calming the nervous system for the week ahead. She recommends using non-toxic soy or beeswax candles for a healthy and fresh impact and placing these scent scenes in high-traffic areas like the living room or kitchen to define the mood and support the home’s daily rhythm. Restyling vignettes is another key aspect of the Sunday reset. Gabriela Eisenhart, founder of Silo Studio Design, enjoys dedicating time to rearrange small decorative moments on surfaces like coffee tables, entryways, or bookshelves. By clearing clutter and making intentional swaps to decor, new life is breathed into the space. This process addresses visual noise, which can create mental unrest, and promotes a calm, organized environment, essential for a smooth week. The inclusion of fresh flowers or greenery is also highly recommended. Integrating a new bouquet of flowers or repositioning existing plants each week can instantly revitalize a room. Gabriela highlights that flowers are ‘instant mood-lifters’ and that their presence does not need to be reserved for special occasions. Moving potted plants to different suitable locations within the home also re-energizes interiors without requiring new purchases. Finally, rearranging throw pillows offers a quick and easy way to refresh a living area. Karina Plotko suggests that this small gesture instantly signals relaxation and can set the tone for the living room for the week. Instead of buying new pillows weekly, individuals can simply swap pillows between couches and accent chairs or experiment with different arrangements to create a renewed look. These designer-approved strategies collectively transform the Sunday reset into an opportunity for ongoing aesthetic enrichment and a heightened sense of well-being within the home. #SundayReset #InteriorDesign #HomeRefresh #HomeDecor #DesignerTips #HomeStyling #WeeklyRituals #MoodSetting #VisualInterest #SundayReset #InteriorDesign #HomeRefresh #HomeDecor #DesignerTips #HomeStyling #WeeklyRituals #MoodSetting #VisualInterest
