That Old Farm-Style Windmill Never Looked So Good
Phillip and Kelly Eggers, a couple from Pilot Point, Texas, encountered a significant challenge in cooling their newly completed custom barndominium. This unique living space, a blend of a barn and a condominium, featured impressive 16-foot vaulted ceilings that trapped hot air, leading to uncomfortable temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, even as floor-level areas remained at a more comfortable 70 degrees. Despite attempts to mitigate the heat with additional air conditioning, the problem persisted, prompting Kelly to seek a more effective solution. Traditional ceiling fans available on the market did not appeal to her aesthetic or functional requirements, which centered on matching the rustic, farm-living ambiance of their home.
The inspiration for a novel solution struck Kelly during a walk on their property when she observed their outdoor farm-style windmill. She noted the robust design and numerous blades of the windmill, contrasting them with conventional fan designs. This observation sparked an idea: if an aluminum version of a windmill, lightweight enough for indoor installation, could be created, it might effectively circulate the trapped hot air downwards, allowing the existing air conditioning system to cool the space more efficiently. This innovative concept laid the foundation for a new venture.
Kelly and Phillip Eggers subsequently founded The Original Windmill Ceiling Fan Company, a family-owned and operated business specializing in custom-designed windmill ceiling fans. Their company stands out as the only one offering handcrafted, American-made custom finishes for these unique fans. Each fan is engineered with 18 blades and an efficient motor, and customers have the flexibility to choose from various sizing options. This customization allows the fans to seamlessly integrate into diverse interior styles, including rustic, farmhouse, or contemporary designs. The versatility of these fans extends beyond residential use, making them suitable for wedding venues and commercial establishments.
Kelly expresses immense pride in developing a product that addresses a common issue for individuals who appreciate and value the traditions of farm life. The company emphasizes its commitment to customer satisfaction and the ability of their unique, beautiful, and functional windmill ceiling fans to enhance any home. The article highlights the innovative spirit of the Eggers, who transformed a personal challenge into a successful business, providing a specialized home decor and climate control solution to a broader market.
