Philips Hue is reportedly working on new light strips with COB technology

The Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus has been a staple for many years, offering a brightness of 1,700 lumens. However, a notable characteristic of this model was the considerable spacing of six centimeters between individual LEDs. This design choice resulted in a visible separation of light points, especially when the light strip was not concealed, which could detract from the desired seamless illumination in certain applications. Philips Hue later introduced the Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip, which addressed this issue by significantly reducing the spacing between LEDs, leading to a more continuous light output. Despite these advancements, the market for LED light strips has seen considerable innovation from other manufacturers. Govee, in particular, has emerged as a strong competitor, consistently delivering light strips with superior visual integration. A prime example is the Govee COB Strip Light Pro, which gained significant attention last year. This product utilizes COB (Chip on Board) technology, an advancement that integrates individual LEDs directly onto the circuit board. The key benefit of COB technology is the elimination of visible gaps between LEDs, creating a perfectly uniform and continuous strip of light. This seamless appearance is evident even in photographs, where traditional light strips often reveal individual LED dots. The aesthetic difference between COB light strips and older models, like the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus, is particularly pronounced when the light source is directly visible and not hidden within a fixture. The uniformity offered by COB technology is highly desirable for applications where a smooth, unbroken line of light is critical for the overall visual effect. Beyond the improved aesthetics, COB technology offers several functional advantages. These include significantly smaller gaps between light-emitting elements, resulting in a more cohesive light output. Additionally, COB light strips typically exhibit higher brightness levels, reduced light attenuation over distance, and a longer operational lifespan compared to conventional LED strips. Signify, the parent company of Philips Hue, is already involved in the production of COB light strips for professional lighting solutions, although these currently lack smart functionalities. Recent information suggests that Philips Hue is actively developing modern COB light strips, indicating a potential shift towards incorporating this advanced technology into their smart home lighting product line. This development could lead to a new generation of Philips Hue light strips that offer enhanced visual appeal and performance, potentially being unveiled at an upcoming event in September. #PhilipsHue #LightStrip #COBTechnology #SmartLighting #LEDTechnology #HomeAutomation #LightingDesign #ProductDevelopment #PhilipsHue #LightStrip #COBTechnology #SmartLighting #LEDTechnology #HomeAutomation #LightingDesign #ProductDevelopment
