“I transformed my bathroom into a tranquil oasis using this trending paint colour”
This article details the transformation of a bathroom from a dull, dated space into a tranquil oasis using a trending teal paint color. The author, Susanne Norris, a deputy editor and interior-design enthusiast, describes the initial challenge of deciding on a paint color for her bathroom. She and her partner had previously painted other rooms in their new flat, including a matcha green feature wall in the living room and a soft pink wall in the bedroom, but faced a stalemate when it came to the bathroom. The author preferred dark green, while her partner favored deep blue, leading to weeks of indecision despite trying multiple paint testers.
To resolve this, they enlisted the help of Tash Bradley, director of interior design and color psychologist at Lick. Bradley's approach involved asking the couple to react to various paint swatches, which revealed their shared preference for warm-based colors. Upon entering the bathroom, Bradley focused on an existing Japanese art print by Hiroshige. After confirming the couple's desire to keep the print and expand it into a Japanese art-inspired gallery wall, Bradley analyzed the colors within the print. This led her to suggest both light and dark teal hues, explaining that these colors would perfectly complement their chosen artwork.
The selection of teal was somewhat unexpected but aligned with current interior design trends. Blues and teals are experiencing a surge in popularity, with Dulux's color of the year being the 'Rhythm of Blues' (a collection of three blue shades), and furniture company Sharps highlighting slate, navy, and teal for their calming and timeless qualities. Given the author's initial preference for green and her partner's for blue, teal emerged as a suitable compromise. The transformation involved painting the white bathroom walls with Lick’s Teal 01 and refreshing the existing brown cabinets with Lick’s Teal 03.
The outcome of the paint job was a significant change, making the bathroom vibrant and beautiful. Further steps included creating a feature wall by adding more Hiroshige prints. Finishing touches were applied, such as a teal bathmat shaped like a cat and the addition of low-maintenance cacti. The author expresses that the bathroom has become one of her favorite spaces in the flat, providing a calming, tranquil, and soothing environment for relaxation after a long day.
