How To Create One of Those Seasonal Porches or Tablescapes You See on Instagram
Summer Partee, the owner of Summer Blaise Interiors and Events, shares insights and tips on creating aesthetically pleasing seasonal porch displays and tablescapes, drawing from her journey in interior design and event planning. Partee transitioned from a kindergarten teacher to an interior designer seven years ago, using her own home as a canvas to develop her signature modern-farmhouse style, characterized by vintage accents and a neutral color palette. This personal exploration eventually led to the launch of her business in 2017, with event planning added a year later. Her busiest season involves crafting fall-themed decorations for clients, a practice she demonstrates in her Gastonia home.
Partee emphasizes practical and creative approaches to seasonal decorating. For October porches, she advises moving beyond traditional Halloween decorations like skeletons and jack-o'-lanterns, instead recommending the incorporation of greenery, woven materials, and natural elements. While mums are popular for fall, she suggests exploring a variety of seasonal florals. Her preferred color palette for fall includes burnt orange and deep caramel, which complement neutral-toned homes. When selecting pumpkins, she favors heirloom varieties over bright, shiny orange ones, appreciating their added dimension and depth. For front doors, she suggests an alternative to wreaths by using baskets, creating a more modern look, and highlights the importance of using large, oversized planters to avoid a cluttered appearance.
For tablescapes, Partee's primary advice is layering, as it enhances the elaborate and cozy feel of a space. She advocates mixing woven and natural elements with metals and florals, all while adhering to a color scheme that harmonizes with the overall home aesthetic. Regarding resources, she encourages leveraging natural elements found outdoors, such as Queen Anne's lace, chrysanthemums, poppies, roses, ranunculus, various grasses, and even wheat, to supplement bought design materials. She also notes that affordable items for linens and plates can be found at retailers like Amazon, demonstrating that elegant designs don't always require expensive purchases.
When it comes to holiday colors, Partee suggests moving beyond the traditional bright greens and reds for Christmas, proposing that designs can still evoke a festive spirit without being overtly loud. She expresses a preference for dark reds and greens during the Christmas season, describing them as classic and less ostentatious. These tips collectively offer a comprehensive guide for individuals looking to create visually appealing and seasonally appropriate home décor, whether for porches or interior settings.
