First-year housing at UMass Dartmouth

This article outlines the living experience for first-year students at UMass Dartmouth, emphasizing community building and convenient access to campus resources. First-year students reside in Balsam and Spruce Halls, which are designed to foster a sense of belonging and provide an environment conducive to both social interaction and academic success. These residence halls primarily feature double-occupancy rooms, with a limited number of single rooms available for specific needs. Each hall is equipped with various common areas, including lounges for relaxation, study spaces for academic work, and laundry facilities. These common areas serve as central hubs for students to socialize, collaborate on assignments, and participate in events organized by Resident Assistants (RAs). The presence of RAs and other residential staff ensures a supportive living environment, offering guidance, planning activities, and facilitating connections among residents. Events such as movie nights, game tournaments, and communal snack runs are regularly organized to encourage interaction and foster a vibrant community spirit. Rooms in Balsam and Spruce Halls come fully furnished to ensure immediate comfort and functionality for new students. Each resident is provided with a Twin XL bed and mattress, a desk and chair for studying, and two two-drawer dressers for storage. Built-in closet space is also included, along with carpeted flooring and window treatments. Modern conveniences are integrated, such as wireless internet access and digital cable, to support both academic and leisure activities. For security and ease of access, rooms are equipped with key-card entry systems. Living on campus offers several advantages, including the immediate opportunity to meet new people and forge friendships, proximity to classes, dining facilities, and campus events, and access to academic and social support from peers and staff. The comprehensive on-campus experience, with everything within walking distance, aims to enhance the overall college journey for first-year students. Additional resources such as billing information, dining options, the student handbook, and student affairs are readily available to assist residents. The Housing & Residential Education office, located in Oak Glen Hall, serves as a primary contact point for students. This office handles assignments, room billing, room selection, and room contracts. The Residential Education Office focuses on student engagement, roommate mediation, and supporting residence hall staff. The article provides contact information, including phone numbers and email, as well as office hours. It also highlights opportunities for students to learn more about campus life and provides links to a virtual campus tour. #UMassDartmouth #FirstYearHousing #StudentLife #ResidenceHalls #BalsamHall #SpruceHall #CampusLiving #StudentAccommodation #ResidentialEducation #UMassDartmouth #FirstYearHousing #StudentLife #ResidenceHalls #BalsamHall #SpruceHall #CampusLiving #StudentAccommodation #ResidentialEducation
