Bouclé, the cosy-chic fabric, is back and how

Bouclé, a fluffy, warm, and inviting fabric, has made a significant comeback in interior design, gracing everything from furniture to furnishings. Its resurgence is largely attributed to Florence Knoll, an influential American architect and interior designer, who commissioned Eero Saarinen to design a chair for ultimate comfort. This resulted in the iconic Saarinen Womb Chair, which debuted in 1948, featuring bouclé and quickly capturing the attention of the design world. The term "bouclé" is French for loop or curl, describing a yarn made from a series of looped fibers. While wool is traditionally the primary fiber, bouclé can also be crafted from cotton, linen, and silk, offering a diverse range of textures and applications. Following its initial triumph with the Womb Chair, bouclé was embraced by various industries, from high-end fashion houses like Chanel to furniture and home textile designers. A notable moment in its recent revival occurred in 2021 when Kim Kardashian famously wrapped a luxury SUV in white bouclé fabric, catapulting the material back into the mainstream spotlight. This event sparked a renewed interest, leading to an influx of bouclé variations and styles in the market today. Design experts confirm bouclé's strong return in 2022. Sarita Handa, founder and creative director of her eponymous brand, notes a high demand for the fabric from clients and collaborators, highlighting its ability to infuse warmth and coziness into any living space. Sachin Chauhan, director at Dialogues by Nirmals, emphasizes the fabric's unique texture as its primary appeal, distinguishing it from more traditional options like velvets and encouraging experimentation in design. Bouclé is predominantly used for upholstery, cushions, and decorative pillows. Its heavy drapes also offer acoustic absorption, while cushions and throws provide a super-soft, inviting feel. Neha Jhunjhunwala, founder of Onset Homes, points out that bouclé throw pillows and blankets add a comforting layer of softness to beds and couches, enhancing their inviting quality. The fabric's inherent texture complements curvy furniture designs, making it a popular choice in modern homes. Advances in textile technology have led to the development of bouclé fabrics that are free of wool content, making them suitable for warmer climates like India. Despite its luxurious appearance, bouclé is relatively easy to maintain. Experts recommend weekly vacuum cleaning and professional dry cleaning when necessary. Looking ahead, multi-colored and multi-toned bouclé fabrics crafted from various materials are anticipated to emerge, further solidifying bouclé's enduring presence in interior design. #BoucléFabric #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #FabricTrends #FurnitureDesign #TextileInnovation #CozyLiving #ModernHomes #FlorenceKnoll #BoucléFabric #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #FabricTrends #FurnitureDesign #TextileInnovation #CozyLiving #ModernHomes #FlorenceKnoll
