AXOR curates three designer bathroom concepts imagining individual luxury
AXOR, a brand known for its iconic bathroom and kitchen objects, is exploring the future of luxury with a focus on individualization, building upon its previous exploration of 'Compact Luxury' and the demand for quality in shrinking living spaces. The brand's 'Distinctive' campaign highlights the need for personal spaces that reflect individual personalities. To illustrate this, AXOR commissioned three renowned creatives—Tristan Auer, Sarah Poniatowski, and Hadi Teherani—to develop unique bathroom concepts that prioritize individual well-being experiences.
Tristan Auer, a Paris-based interior architect, designed the first concept, 'Blade Runner,' inspired by the layered typology and mix of distinct eras found in Hong Kong. This high-rise apartment bathroom blends old and new, historic and futuristic elements, featuring an 80s aesthetic. The space utilizes stainless steel surfaces that reflect neon lighting, contrasted with a graphic combination of light and dark travertine stone. The design incorporates a diamond-cut pyramidal pattern from AXOR’s Edge faucet, extending it throughout the room. Objects like the Edge washbasin and free-standing bath faucets, AXOR ShowerHeaven, Edge thermostat, and new AXOR Universal Rectangular Accessories by Philippe Starck contribute to the contrasting materials and luxurious feel.
Sarah Poniatowski of Maison Sarah Lavoine created the second concept, an idyllic, detached seaside bathroom. Her design draws inspiration from the natural authenticity of South-West France, emphasizing a balance between indoor and outdoor living to create a relaxing, holiday-like atmosphere that reconnects individuals with their surroundings. Natural materials such as raw pine and travertine blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior. Sunlight filters through folding windows with wooden louvers, creating stripes on the teal tiles inside, while a teak-framed doorway leads to a shaded terrace with exposed pine beams. The outdoor shower area, featuring the AXOR Starck Nature Shower, enhances the natural effect. Subtle contrasts are achieved through color and material choices, including the brushed bronze of the AXOR FinishPlus on the AXOR Starck collection, with two AXOR Starck faucets accenting the travertine washbasin and a floor-standing edition by the bathtub. The AXOR Starck Shower Column mirrors the lines of the exposed pine beams.
Hadi Teherani, known for his holistic design approach, developed the third bathroom concept, which is influenced by the open yet secure nature of Middle Eastern public baths. This space is designed for regeneration, offering both protection and a sense of infinity, stemming from Teherani's personal perception of self-image. The bathroom is envisioned as an enveloping cupola, positioned at the center of a home, characterized by its zero corners and edges, creating an organic, cocoon-like form. An organically shaped bathtub sits in the middle of the circular, open-plan room, flanked by a spacious shower area and an oval double washbasin. The high arched ceiling is adorned with a dazzling glass mosaic, creating the illusion of lounging under a starry sky. The design incorporates elegant, functional objects like the AXOR Citterio E faucets, AXOR overhead and hand-held showers, and AXOR Universal Softsquare Accessories in matt black, which provide striking contrasts and act as “functional jewelry,” enhancing the high-quality performance essential for true well-being experiences.
