An Innovatively Envisioned 3D Printed Table Design By ALEKSA Studio

The article presents an innovatively designed 3D printed table by Aleksandrina Rizova, founder of ALEKSA Studio in London. Designed in 2014, the table combines CNC-milled walnut for its top and SLS 3D prototyped legs, showcasing an interest in advanced manufacturing techniques and 3D product design. The project integrates a variety of new digital manufacturing methods, aiming for a spatial construct that balances natural and synthetic materials. The design's core concept focuses on a lightweight, hyper-efficient framework for the legs, capable of supporting a substantial natural wood tabletop. The contrasting materiality, with soft and hard, light and weighty elements, highlights the table's innovative blend of natural and synthetic production. Computer-aided design played a crucial role in achieving high accuracy, ensuring a flawless fit between the 3D prototyped legs and the CNC-machined top. 3D modeling facilitated precise design and allowed for straightforward future modifications and on-demand production in various sizes. The table's top was crafted from a solid laminated walnut block, milled by a 3-axis CNC machine to replicate a 3D model. The process involved machining the top from two sides to create a three-dimensional undulating surface on the underside, a task completed in just six hours. For the legs, SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) rapid prototyping was employed to print them at the largest possible size. The 3D prototype construction consists of seven intricately detailed parts designed for a perfect fit. The combination of 3D modeling and digital fabrication technologies ensured exceptional accuracy in the final components. The legs were intentionally left untreated, while the walnut top underwent meticulous hand-sanding and varnishing to achieve its final finish. This unique side table, which is both functional and aesthetically impactful, debuted at Clerkenwell Design Week in May 2014. It was later exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in 2017 and is now part of the Centre national des arts plastiques Collection (CNAP) in Paris, underscoring its recognition in the design and art world. The project's information details Aleksandrina Rizova of ALEKSA Studio as the designer and London as the location, with the design completed in 2014. #3DPrintedProduct #3DPrintedTable #3DPrinting #ALEKSAStudio #AleksandrinaRizova #ParametricDesign #ProductDesign #3DPrintedProduct #3DPrintedTable #3DPrinting #ALEKSAStudio #AleksandrinaRizova #ParametricDesign #ProductDesign
