7 Clever (and Cost-Saving) Ways to Make Your Kitchen Look Expensive

This article provides seven designer-approved tips to elevate the appearance of a kitchen, making it look more expensive without requiring a large budget. The suggestions combine creativity, effort, and thoughtful purchases to achieve an upscale aesthetic. The advice is provided by Paulina Hospod, an interior and architectural designer and president of AhA!nteriors, and Mina Lisanin, an interior designer and founder of ML Interiors, both based in New York. The first tip recommends utilizing under-cabinet lighting. Instead of expensive hardwired options, battery-powered peel-and-stick lights, readily available on platforms like Amazon, can provide similar functional task lighting and ambiance. Motion sensor versions can also be used in drawers for an added touch of luxury at a minimal cost. The second tip focuses on upgrading kitchen hardware. If major renovations like changing cabinetry are not feasible, replacing existing hardware with high-quality alternatives from designer trade stores can significantly enhance the kitchen's look. Unique door pulls, such as half circles, installed creatively, can further elevate basic cabinets. Recommended finishes include brushed nickel, matte black, or brass for an instant update. Thirdly, the article suggests incorporating an oversized light fixture. A strategically placed, eye-catching fixture can divert attention from less desirable elements of the kitchen. Choosing one that complements the kitchen's style but with a unique or funky design can create an illusion of elegance and higher cost. The fourth tip involves open shelving. While requiring some demolition and DIY skills, removing existing cabinetry to install open shelves can make a kitchen appear more spacious and costly. Open shelves offer an opportunity to display stylish dishware, cookbooks, and decorative items, with framed art on shelves adding a polished touch. High-quality wood or metal brackets are recommended for a refined look. The fifth piece of advice is to add crown molding to cabinetry. This minor feature can have a significant impact by creating a custom, built-in appearance, regardless of whether the cabinets extend to the ceiling. The sixth tip suggests prioritizing budget allocation. If renovation funds are limited, it's wise to invest in areas that require less material. For example, selecting a more expensive tile for a small backsplash area while opting for an affordable option for the floor allows for a luxurious touch where it's most noticeable, maximizing impact for the cost. Finally, the article emphasizes the importance of removing clutter. High-end kitchens are consistently clutter-free. Maintaining tidy countertops allows features like the backsplash and countertops to stand out, rather than being overshadowed by disorganized items. Utilizing stylish storage solutions helps keep surfaces clean and organized, contributing to an overall expensive aesthetic. #KitchenDesign #HomeDecor #BudgetFriendly #InteriorDesignTips #KitchenRemodel #DIYHome #LuxuryKitchen #HomeImprovement #KitchenDesign #HomeDecor #BudgetFriendly #InteriorDesignTips #KitchenRemodel #DIYHome #LuxuryKitchen #HomeImprovement
