6 Trending Houseplants For 2025 That You Won't Want To Miss
The popularity of houseplants has significantly increased, partly due to individuals spending more time at home during the pandemic, seeking joy and a connection to nature. This trend continues, driven by the health benefits of houseplants and their use in home decoration. Houseplant trends evolve annually, and for 2025, a key focus is on variegated plants, characterized by foliage displaying multiple color shades and unique patterns. Carlie Paluzzo, co-founder and COO of BWH Plant Co., highlighted several trending variegated houseplants in an exclusive interview.
Monstera plants remain highly popular in 2025, known for their distinctive heart-shaped leaves and natural slits and holes. They are widely accessible, even for beginner plant enthusiasts. To elevate a Monstera collection, variegated varieties such as Monstera deliciosa 'Albo Borsigiana,' Monstera 'Mint,' and 'Thai Constellation' are particularly sought after. Philodendrons, another staple in household plant collections, are valued for their availability and ease of propagation. Trending variegated Philodendron varieties include 'Jose Buono,' 'Red Congo,' and 'Florida Beauty,' which introduce vibrant and artistic foliage to any collection. These varieties often feature unique patterns and colors that add visual interest.
Hoyas continue to be favorites in 2025, prized for their delicate, fragrant flower clusters and pet-friendly nature. They are also low-maintenance, making them suitable for novice plant owners. The wide array of Hoya varieties allows for diverse collections. Variegated options like 'Parviflora Splash,' with its speckled leaves, 'Krimson Queen,' featuring pinkish-white leaf outlines, and the unique single-leaf 'Kerrii' are particularly popular. Alocasias, known for their striking, often sci-fi-like appearance, feature long, slender leaves, deep jewel tones, and intriguing textures. Trending variegated Alocasia varieties include 'Pink Black Velvet,' Alocasia lauterbachiana 'Purple Sword,' and 'Green Dragon Scale,' all recognized for their intricate and uncommon aesthetics.
Velvet leaf Anthuriums are similar in shape to Alocasias, with variegation appearing as pronounced veins across their narrow leaves. Collectors of tropical plants are drawn to hybrids that showcase the Anthurium's distinctive details. Popular varieties include 'Clarinervium,' 'Crystallinum,' and 'Forgetii,' all featuring velvety green foliage with prominent silvery-white veins. For those seeking a more dramatic plant, the variegated banana tree is a significant trend. Varieties like Musa 'Florida' and Musa 'Pink Nono' are noted for their stunning patterns. BWH Plant Co. also introduced the Musa 'Bronana,' an affordable variegated option that produces edible variegated bananas and has seen rapidly increasing demand, frequently selling out.
