How interior designer Jenny Rausch transforms her home into a haunted mansion every October

Interior designer Jenny Rausch, owner of Karr Bick Kitchen & Bath, annually transforms her home into a theatrical haunted mansion for Halloween. Starting on the first of October, she embarks on a quest to gather unique and eerie decorations from various Halloween stores, ranging from skeletons and beheaded dolls to ghouls and chainsaws. Rausch describes her approach as creating a scene rather than merely decorating, aiming for a more immersive and dramatic Halloween experience. For her current year's display, Rausch incorporated skeletons into her dinner table setting, envisioning them as affluent, long-deceased individuals, akin to vampires who have amassed wealth over centuries. To enhance this narrative, she complemented the skeletons with aged finery and unpolished silver, evoking a sense of their past lives. Additionally, her ghoulish characters were given skeleton dogs as pets. One particular detail involved placing a rat in the hands of a skeleton dog positioned on its hind legs, mimicking the act of giving a treat, reflecting Rausch's imaginative question, "what would I do with my dog if I was a ghost?" Rausch also employs cost-effective methods to achieve a spooky ambiance. She extensively uses spider webs and greenish-gray gauze, which, when draped over objects, instantly create an aged and eerie appearance, effectively setting the desired scene. Her primary advice for anyone decorating their home is to pursue what they genuinely love and not be swayed by others' opinions, encouraging them to "make it magical" and draw inspiration from sources that resonate with them. Her personal inspirations for Halloween decor stem from classic haunted aesthetics, such as the haunted mansion featured in "Scooby-Doo's" television theme song, and the Victorian-style house and witch's apothecary depicted in the film "Practical Magic." Rausch notes that for her, the cooling weather of autumn doesn't signal a desire for pumpkin lattes, but rather an eager anticipation of collecting items to decorate for Halloween. This annual tradition highlights her deep passion for the holiday and her creative approach to home decor, transforming her living space into a captivating and imaginative haunted spectacle. #HalloweenDecor #InteriorDesign #HauntedMansion #JennyRausch #HolidayDecorations #TheatricalDecor #HomeTransformation #HalloweenDecor #InteriorDesign #HauntedMansion #JennyRausch #HolidayDecorations #TheatricalDecor #HomeTransformation
