Elton John offers glimpse of pretty pergola at 27-acre Windsor estate
Sir Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, primarily reside in a palatial home in Berkshire, England, which is notably located a short distance from Windsor Castle. The property, valued at approximately £7 million, is their main residence among several international homes and is where they live with their two sons, Zachary (13) and Elijah (11). Despite its expansive nature, with multiple bedrooms, tennis courts, large reception rooms, and a modern kitchen, public glimpses of the estate have been infrequent.
Recently, Elton John shared a video on Instagram celebrating his album 'Diamonds' reaching the number-one spot on the album charts. This video provided a rare peek into their Windsor estate's outdoor space. The footage showed Elton John seated at a pristine white marble dining table, addressing his fans, with a view of his extensive garden in the background. The outdoor area is characterized by a hanging lantern situated outside floor-to-ceiling bifold doors that open onto a patio from the dining room. The garden also features tall hedges and manicured shrubs, contributing to a lush, countryside aesthetic, and the height of the trees ensures an additional layer of privacy.
A notable feature observed in the garden view is a pretty pergola on the outdoor terrace. This pergola, described as being made of iron, displays a decadent floral design, departing from more traditional parallel paneling. The article speculates that the space beneath this large garden feature might accommodate a chic table and chair set or comfortable outdoor sofas. The outdoor area of the estate also includes Renaissance-style gardens, a Roman terrace, and a secret garden. Such an impressive and generously sized outdoor space would have been well-suited for Elton John's renowned White Tie & Tiara parties, which he hosted over the years to support his Aids Foundation organization.
Elton John acquired the grand Woodside estate four decades ago. Since then, he has undertaken extensive modernization efforts to personalize the property. However, he made a conscious decision to retain one traditional element: a chapel located on the grounds. The house itself holds significant historical value, having been built centuries ago for King Henry VIII's surgeon, and is only about ten minutes away from Windsor Castle. The preservation of the chapel not only maintains the property's rich history but also served a poignant purpose when Elton John used it for private mourning after the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997.
