4 Things to Remember When Renovating Your Bathroom

Renovating a bathroom doesn't have to be a stressful endeavor if a clear plan is in place. While many focus on aesthetic elements like tiles and tapware, it's crucial to remember the bathroom's functional aspects, where attention to detail is paramount. Before embarking on a bathroom renovation, there are four key areas to consider to ensure the space is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. First, lighting is essential for any bathroom, requiring consideration of the room's size and its primary functions. While overhead lighting remains a popular and traditional choice, interior stylist Emma Blomfield notes an increasing trend towards wall sconce lighting, often positioned next to mirrors, which is more flattering for tasks like makeup application. Beyond primary light sources, incorporating dimmer switches or wall sconces can create a relaxing ambiance for unwinding in the tub. For comprehensive renovations, window placement and appropriate glass or glazing solutions are also vital for balancing natural light and privacy. Second, ventilation is a critical, often legally mandated, component of bathroom design. Building codes and Australian standards dictate window sizes, opening mechanisms, and suitable ventilation fans to ensure adequate airflow. Monique Cheung, IXL Senior Brand Manager, emphasizes that proper home ventilation is vital for maintaining comfort, health, and indoor air quality by preventing moisture buildup, eliminating contaminants and odors, and inhibiting mold growth and structural damage. Third, heating in a bathroom, while a luxury, significantly enhances comfort. Modern solutions, such as the IXL Tastic Ovation 3-in-1 Heater, Exhaust Fan, and Light, combine heating, lighting, and ventilation into a single, sleek fixture. Monique explains that Tastic infrared heat lamps utilize Halo Heat™ technology to instantly warm the user without heating the entire room, providing long-lasting warmth during colder months. This 3-in-1 unit is also energy-efficient, featuring a self-sealing back draught stopper that prevents drafts and insects from entering the home, making it suitable for 5-star energy-rated residences. Finally, a renovation provides the perfect opportunity to customize the bathroom's style. Emma Blomfield suggests that the architectural style of the house heavily influences bathroom design. Traditional or heritage homes might benefit from classic choices, while new builds or contemporary homes lend themselves to modern styles. Practical considerations also play a role, as the bathroom's users—whether a family with children, a main bathroom, an ensuite, or a powder room—will impact style decisions. Powder rooms, for instance, offer more freedom for playful designs due to less wear and tear compared to main bathrooms. #BathroomRenovation #HomeDesign #LightingSolutions #VentilationSystems #HeatingOptions #InteriorStyle #EnergyEfficiency #FunctionalDesign #BathroomRenovation #HomeDesign #LightingSolutions #VentilationSystems #HeatingOptions #InteriorStyle #EnergyEfficiency #FunctionalDesign
