Their interest in the benefits of art for mental health led them to discover Zentangle, and they subsequently began utilizing it to help others understand its emotional and psychological aspects. This art form provides a structured yet non-judgmental environment for individuals to engage in creative expression.
Many artists, such as Bengaluru-based content writer Rasha Khan, use Zentangle for meditative purposes. Khan, who showcases her work on a Facebook page named 'Rasha: Artist,' finds that the art form helps in achieving a balance between mind and body, leading to a relaxed state after sketching. This personal experience highlights the individual benefits of Zentangle as a calming activity.
Umesh Prasad, who operates 'Different Strokes Creative Learning & Activity Centre,' emphasizes the broad potential of Zentangle across various sectors. He notes that Zentangling is constantly evolving, with practitioners developing unique expressions. Its applications extend from jewelry and T-shirt design to fancy gift products, and significantly, to interior and wall art. Prasad actively applies Zentangling techniques to diverse media beyond traditional pen and paper.
Prasad also highlights the potential of Zen art in interior design, noting ongoing experiments to integrate Zentangles into wall murals using various mediums and techniques. This suggests a future where Zentangle patterns could be cost-effectively incorporated into home decoration and design.
Kanhere advocates for the Art of Zen as a tool for fostering creativity and aiding in recovery from traumatic experiences. She explains its use in art-based psychotherapy, where it facilitates the expression of issues and conflicts that individuals might find difficult to articulate verbally.
