NuLu loft is perfect blend of vintage, trendy | Home of the Week
John Parson and Deborah Shurlow-Parson, owners of a downtown NuLu loft, sought the expertise of interior designer Kristen Pawlak, owner of Decorating Den Interiors, to create a comfortable yet stylish interior while preserving the historic integrity of the space. Pawlak successfully merged the loft's industrial architectural elements with a diverse selection of bold accessories and furnishings, transforming the industrial setting into a welcoming retreat.
The living room features an elaborate chandelier as a focal point, complemented by modern, battery-operated leather recliners and a plush sofa adorned with decorative pillows. Nesting tables are strategically placed for convenience. A wall-mounted flatscreen television is artfully concealed by colorful artwork and is set against a faux-painted accent wall above a modern console displaying family photographs. The windows are fitted with remote-control blinds, offering both privacy and light control. The dining room seamlessly flows from the living room, with a stylish mirror delineating the space. An oval copper-top table serves as the centerpiece, featuring a wood horse bust. Rustic accent chairs are paired with host and hostess chairs, creating an inviting setting for intimate gatherings. A raised counter with a pass-through connects the dining area to the sunken kitchen.
Leading up a staircase to the master bedroom, the wall is adorned with various art pieces. The master bedroom includes an intimate sitting area furnished with an accent chair featuring nailhead trim and a cozy sofa, providing views over the living room. For their German Shepherd, Taro, a stylish dog bed is integrated into the decor. The open space of the bedroom is balanced by matching vintage wardrobes, and sconces provide ambient lighting. An oversized tufted leather chair offers a comfortable spot for relaxation. The bed is dressed in chocolate and teal linens and features a leather tufted headboard. Vintage side tables serve as anchors for the room, while a bench is positioned at the foot of the bed. An exposed brick accent wall is highlighted by metal art depicting a deer on stretch canvas.
The loft, located in the trendy Fall City Lofts in NuLu, is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit. It boasts distinctive elements such as being situated in an old historic building with 17-foot ceilings and retaining some original brick and plaster. The master bedroom's sitting area, overlooking the living room, is a key feature. The design aesthetic blends vintage pieces with modern elements, incorporating bright art, battery-operated leather recliners, a sunken kitchen, and an abundance of natural light. The homeowners expressed satisfaction with Kristen Pawlak’s assistance in their decor choices.
