Bette releases shower tiles as latest evolution of the shower tray
German bathroom company Bette has introduced the BetteAir range of shower tiles, marking a significant advancement in the design of showering spaces. These innovative shower trays are designed by Potsdam-based Tesseraux and Partner, with the primary goal of achieving seamless integration into a tiled bathroom floor. BetteAir aims to transform the traditional shower tray into an integral part of the bathroom floor, creating a cohesive and visually uninterrupted surface.
The BetteAir shower trays are distinguished by their ultra-thin profile and ease of installation, leading Bette to refer to them as the "first shower tiles." Constructed from glazed titanium steel, the trays offer a durable and easy-to-clean surface. This material choice ensures both longevity and hygiene, addressing common concerns in bathroom design. The trays are available in eight standard shower sizes, each measuring just 10 millimeters thick, which is comparable to the thickness of typical large-format tiles.
Installation of the BetteAir system is straightforward, mirroring the process for conventional tiles. They can be glued directly to the bathroom floor, thereby eliminating joints and creating a smooth, continuous surface. Dominik Tesseraux of Tesseraux and Partner highlights that this design eliminates the drawbacks associated with traditional tiles, such as grout lines that can accumulate dirt and become difficult to clean. The jointless nature of BetteAir contributes to an immaculately beautiful, hygienic, and easy-to-maintain showering area.
This product represents the latest stage in the evolution of shower tray design, reflecting a trend towards flatter and more integrated solutions over several decades. Historically, shower trays were significantly higher, with heights around 30 centimeters in the 1970s. Bette's earlier innovation, the BetteFloor, also utilized glazed titanium steel and pioneered the concept of floor-level, jointless showering. BetteAir further refines this concept, offering an even flatter profile that seamlessly blends with the surrounding floor.
Despite its minimal height, the BetteAir system efficiently manages wastewater drainage. The integrated wastewater drainage is covered by a flush cap, and the installation requires a minimum height of 97 millimeters. Water effectively drains through a narrow three-millimeter gap at a rate of 0.6 liters per second, sufficient to handle high-volume rain showers. The design prioritizes both aesthetics and functionality, ensuring effective water removal without compromising the sleek appearance.
To complement various bathroom aesthetics, BetteAir is available in 31 colors and a range of finishes. This extensive selection allows for customization, enabling the shower tray to either harmonize with or provide a striking contrast to the overall bathroom design. Furthermore, an anti-slip surface option can be added, enhancing safety within the showering space. This combination of design flexibility, hygienic properties, and advanced functionality positions BetteAir as a notable development in modern bathroom fixture design.
