5 Experts Share Their Favorite Tile for a Knockout Shower

Selecting bathroom tile involves numerous design decisions, extending beyond mere material choices to encompass shape, size, and configuration. To navigate these complexities, insights from leading tile companies and designers are essential. This article compiles expert recommendations for creating a standout walk-in shower, focusing on five distinct tile trends and styles. The "New White" trend, advocated by Deborah Osburn of Clé Tile, reinterprets neutral bathrooms by incorporating subtle patterns and varied textures. Osburn suggests experimenting with materials like shiny zellige or glazed brick. An alternative approach involves using black-and-white cement tiles with strong graphics, such as a Western-inspired motif, to create a focal point in a spacious shower, as demonstrated by Natalie Myers of Veneer Design. For high ceilings, the "Emerald Green" aesthetic, proposed by Damla Turgut of Otto Tiles, emphasizes vertical elongation. Turgut highlights a curved shower design featuring narrow, vivid green tiles that evoke the appearance of bamboo and create an outdoor, rainforest-like ambiance, especially when combined with a rain-forest shower. She suggests pairing these thin glazed glass tiles with green marble to enhance the luxurious feel. Catherine Bailey, co-owner and creative director of Heath Ceramics, introduces the "Tetris Hex" concept, encouraging designers to extend tile patterns to the ceiling. She points to a bathroom design by architect Donna Gold Roberts, which achieves a balanced fade to white using white and blue hexagonal tiles. Roberts strategically incorporates Heath’s Little Diamonds pattern down the center, creating an optical illusion and a playful element for observers to discover. Paul Burns, founder of Fireclay, champions the "Luminous Glaze" for its natural appeal. His recommendation features earth-toned, 2-by-6 rectangular tiles, aptly named Sand Dune. These tiles offer a unique twist on traditional subway tile when installed vertically. Their soft, semi-reflective sheen imparts a glow when wet, enhancing the shower's aesthetic. Finally, Kate Balsis of Concrete Collaborative presents the "Subtle Terrazzo" style, which prioritizes a low-key gray-on-gray design. When combined with terracotta tiles, this approach creates a surprisingly zen atmosphere. An example of this is a unique setup by designer Jamie Bush, where the vanity and shower bench are integrated into a single large slab of terrazzo. These expert insights collectively offer a diverse range of options for modern shower tile design, moving beyond conventional choices like standard white subway tile. #BathroomTile #ShowerDesign #TileTrends #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #ExpertAdvice #DesignInspiration #BathroomTile #ShowerDesign #TileTrends #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #ExpertAdvice #DesignInspiration
