Columbia Place Offers Luxury Living for the 55+ Community
Columbia Place, a new active over-55 gated community developed by Reybold Residential, is nearing completion on Garden of Eden Road in the Talleyville area of Wilmington. The community, encompassing 150 units, draws inspiration from the French countryside, blending traditional aesthetics with contemporary design elements. The development features a mix of 17 single-family homes, two condominium buildings, and townhomes. The single-family homes range from 2,900 to 3,500 square feet, and several families have already taken residence.
Owner and developer Jerome Heisler collaborated with architect Daniel Ball to establish a transitional contemporary exterior style with distinct French country influences, characterized by elements such as mahogany shutters and locally quarried stone. The interior design, spearheaded by Candice Ober, Reybold's design manager, in conjunction with interior designer Henrietta Heisler (Jerome's cousin), aims for a welcoming, clean, and consistent aesthetic throughout the community. The chosen palette features calming tones, moving away from a stark white toward more nuanced hues to create a distinctive atmosphere.
The residences are outfitted with high-end fixtures and materials. Kitchens boast appliances from Thermador, Sub-Zero, and Wolf, complemented by Daltile finishes and quartzite Perla Venata countertops with a triple pencil edge. All fixtures, including faucets, are from Kohler, emphasizing a commitment to quality over standard builder-grade materials. The model home showcases these upgrades, featuring copper faucets, real mahogany shutters and doors, and locally quarried stone. The kitchen pendants are frosted white glass with a brushed-nickel finish from Visual Comfort, paired with Bernhardt stools. The bedroom in the model unit features a Santa Barbara Bernhardt bed with a sandstone wood finish, and the flooring consists of engineered wood with random width planks, contributing to the desired country feel.
While the exterior style is predetermined, new homeowners have considerable flexibility in customizing their interiors. Homeowners meet with Candice Ober to select cabinets, countertops, flooring, and plumbing fixtures. Given that these are not first homes for the residents, many have clear preferences. Customization options range from adhering to the base design package to completely personalized homes with bespoke floor plans. Examples of tailored modifications include a wine cellar in the basement and a luxurious bathroom with a heated mud set, incorporating radiant heat for the shower floor and seat. This level of customization is intended to provide an enhanced sense of luxury and cater to the specific desires of the discerning over-55 demographic.
