Maison Martin Margiela launches first wallpaper collections for Omexco
Maison Martin Margiela, the renowned fashion house, has expanded its design portfolio by launching its inaugural wallcovering collection in collaboration with Belgian brand Omexco. This new collection comprises five distinct wallpaper designs, each reflecting Maison Martin Margiela's signature blend of humor, elegance, avant-garde ideals, and classic tastes. The designs incorporate trompe l'œil effects, optical illusions, and reinterpreted motifs, showcasing the brand's conceptual aesthetic.
The collection features five unique patterns: La Paésine, La Mosaïque, Le Rideau, Le Point de Croix, and L'optique. La Paésine draws inspiration from a Tuscan limestone. The design originated from a photograph of a stone discovered at a flea market, which was then enlarged and digitally printed onto mica mineral dust on a non-woven backing. This process imparts a tactile quality to the wallpaper and is available in natural, black, and white color variations.
La Mosaïque reinterprets an 18th-century marquetry pattern, creating a three-dimensional geometric mosaic effect. This design is screen-printed onto a non-woven wall covering and finished with silver or gold leaf accents. It is offered in several color palettes, including turquoise, lapis-lazuli, and black; ochre, bordeaux, and brown; fading whites; and fading greys.
Le Rideau employs the trompe l'œil technique to depict an aging staircase. This image is screen-printed onto a textile wall-covering, which allows for a scattered effect that shifts depending on the viewer's perspective. The color options for Le Rideau include white, pearl grey, blue, blue grey, and red.
Le Point de Croix features a cross-stitch design of a floral bouquet. This pattern is screen-printed onto a non-woven wall covering and is available in white and silver, nude, and a red and blue version that creates a three-dimensional visual. The collection's final design, L'optique, presents a deformed herringbone motif. When viewed up close, it offers an optical illusion, while from a distance, it appears as a gently textured surface. This design is screen-printed onto a non-woven material with a matt base and a gloss finish. It is available in black on white, white on black, and black on black, all with both matt and gloss finishes, as well as brown and copper, and pearl grey and white gold, both with matt and metallic finishes.
According to a statement from Maison Martin Margiela, the collection embodies their approach of deconstructing shape and volume and molding a unique conceptual aesthetic by blending humor with elegance, avant-garde ideals with classic tastes, and reinterpreting objects while playing with false pretenses. The collaboration with Omexco marks the fashion house's foray into the wallcovering market, bringing its distinctive design philosophy to interior spaces.
