Ombré’s Cooler Cousin Makes an Appearance in Brooklinen’s Latest Bedding Launch
Brooklinen has introduced a new bedding collection, "Stripes," which features a unique design aesthetic inspired by the work of New York City-based artist Karen J. Revis. This collection moves beyond traditional prints, offering a creative display for beds. The design takes cues from Revis's original print works, characterized by their texture and bold energy, and is available in two distinct colorways: Creamsicle, a peachy orange, and Ultraviolet, a combination of pale blues and richer purples.
The core of this collection's design is the monoprint technique, which Revis frequently utilizes in her art. Unlike conventional screen printing, which uses reusable templates, a monoprint is a one-time process, ensuring that each resulting image is unique and cannot be replicated. This approach imbues the bedding with a one-of-a-kind gradient effect, distinguishing it from the more common ombré style. Katie Elks, Brooklinen’s director of design and product development, noted that the intention behind the color palette was to create something transitional—cozy enough for winter while easily adaptable for spring.
The article provides suggestions for layering the new bedding, offering specific product recommendations to complement both the Creamsicle and Ultraviolet colorways. For the Creamsicle scheme, it suggests pairing the striped duvet with a simple dotted throw pillow, such as the Lorenzo Throw Pillow from Morrow Soft Goods, and a graphic blanket like the Tiger Pink Woven Throw to balance the stripes. This combination aims to create a cohesive yet dynamic look.
For the Ultraviolet scheme, the recommendation is to layer the duvet with a small-scale floral sheet set, adhering to a basic principle of pattern pairing. An example provided is the Toile Sheet Set from Urban Outfitters. To add depth and richness to the overall bedding ensemble, a quilt in a similar color story, such as the Bajada Jersey Quilt from Anthropologie, is suggested. These layering ideas offer practical guidance for incorporating the new collection into various bedroom aesthetics, emphasizing the artistic and unique nature of the monoprint-inspired designs.
