T&C Design Dispatch: The Final Getty Sale at Christie's

This blog post offers a curated overview of significant happenings in the world of interior design, focusing on a major auction event, the expansion of a renowned design firm, the release of a new book on modern architecture, and a luxury home accessories collaboration. The final installment of the Ann and Gordon Getty sale at Christie's, titled '_Wheatland_', is highlighted as a significant event. This auction concludes a series that began a year prior and features items from Ann Getty's childhood home in Northern California, which she transformed into an English country house. The collection showcases a blend of antique furniture, textiles, extensive use of fabric shades, lamps, and Far Eastern accessories. Notable items include an early George III Ebony and Chinese reverse-painted library bookcase, George II Giltwood armchairs, a royal George III Ormolu-mounted white marble mantel clock, and Chinese export mirror paintings, alongside Dutch paintings reflecting Getty's heritage. Christie's Deputy Chairman, Americas, Jonathan Rendell, emphasizes Ann Getty's discerning eye that integrated history, art, and nature into a tapestry of elegance at the Wheatland estate. The auction is scheduled for October 18 and 19 in New York City, with an online sale ending October 20. In parallel, Martin Kemp Design, a London-based firm known for its international luxury projects in Europe and Asia, is expanding its presence into the United States with a new outpost in New York City. The firm, which caters to clients with superyachts and chateaus, is recognized for its ability to merge international luxury with the specific aesthetics and materials of the project's location. Examples provided include a modern English country house-inspired townhouse in London, a Bayview Penthouse in Guangzhou featuring Chinese screen paintings, and a private jet design for a Zurich client that reflects ultra-luxe and streamlined designs. CEO Jemimah Graff will lead the US expansion. The post also introduces architect Celeste Robbins's first book, '_The Meaningful Modern Home: Soulful Architecture and Interiors_,' published by Monacelli Press. Robbins, principal architect of Robbins Architecture, explores modern architecture's relationship with nature, characterized by angular shapes, ample windows, and open spaces that foster a connection to the outdoors. The book, set for release on September 20th, features 175 photographs by Roger Davies showcasing nine of Robbins's projects across the United States. It challenges the perception of modern architecture as cold, advocating for a holistic vision that integrates architecture, interior design, and landscape. Robbins's own childhood in a mid-century modern home with wood paneling, floor-to-ceiling glass, and flat roofs has profoundly influenced her professional work. Finally, Dior Maison's new line of home accessories, created in collaboration with Paris-based interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch, is presented. Yovanovitch, who transitioned from a career with Pierre Cardin, is celebrated for his mastery of volumes, proportions, and light. The collection includes essential items such as trays, candleholders, pencil pots, and trinket dishes, all featuring a darker palette and embossed leather. The line also incorporates playful elements like a deck of cards designed by Roman artist Pietro Ruffo and a set of dominoes, aiming to elevate everyday objects. #InteriorDesign #LuxuryHomeDecor #Auction #ModernArchitecture #DesignFirmExpansion #DiorMaison #PierreYovanovitch #CelesteRobbins #AnnGettyCollection #InteriorDesign #LuxuryHomeDecor #Auction #ModernArchitecture #DesignFirmExpansion #DiorMaison #PierreYovanovitch #CelesteRobbins #AnnGettyCollection
