These 5 Bathroom Paint Colors Are Already Trending for 2026, Designers Say

Well-designed bathrooms are experiencing a resurgence in popularity, largely driven by the strategic use of color. The paint shades gaining traction reflect a desire for personal expression, a sense of calm, and a stronger connection to nature. According to Kendra Sinclair, a design trends expert at Thumbtack, these bathroom paint color trends are closely linked to broader shifts in tile and material preferences, incorporating organic shapes, vintage references, and earthy tones. This marks a departure from traditional bright white, as homeowners increasingly opt for natural, soothing palettes that impart a modern, cozy, and personalized feel to their bathrooms. One trending color is terracotta, which redefines neutrals with its muted, earthy red tones. These shades evoke a sense of warmth and sophistication, reminiscent of rustic adobe or Tuscan villas, and are suitable for bathrooms of any size. Sinclair notes that warm neutrals like terracotta reds and muted taupes create a grounded, cocooning ambiance. The inherent softness of terracotta introduces warmth, effectively balancing the often cool and hard surfaces found in bathrooms. Designers are pairing terracotta with matte black or brushed brass accents to achieve a modern aesthetic. In spaces with ample natural light, terracotta walls can glow throughout the day, an effect that can be enhanced with carefully chosen textiles such as towels, rugs, or sconce shades. Grassy greens, including muted sage, khaki green, olive, and soft mossy tones, are also gaining significant momentum. Dawn Ianno of Dawn Interiors highlights that these colors cultivate a calming, organic atmosphere, especially when complemented by natural materials like oak, marble, and warm brass. Nature-inspired greens are consistently popular in bathrooms because they seamlessly connect the indoor space with the outdoors. Their soothing and grounding energy is ideal for preparing for the day or unwinding in the evening. Ianno explains that these paint colors accentuate the greens in natural stone, creating a truly earthy and organic feel. When combined with natural brown cabinetry, rattan baskets, and unbleached linen curtains, the result is effortlessly serene. Off-white remains a timeless choice, offering a fresh feel without the starkness of high-gloss white. Creamy, soft tones in an eggshell finish or with subtle speckling create an inviting and relaxed atmosphere. Off-white walls also serve as an ideal backdrop, allowing statement design features, such as dual showerheads or claw-foot tubs, to stand out without competition. This neutral canvas facilitates easy updates, as removable accents like new towels, shower curtains, or hardware can be swapped to effortlessly shift the room's aesthetic from modern minimalism to classic comfort. Stone shades, such as charcoal and slate gray, offer an elegant yet edgy aesthetic. These colors introduce an industrial vibe that can be softened through accessories. Ceramic finishes, in particular, provide a tactile balance to these deeper tones. As strong visual anchors, these sultry hues help lighter, more delicate items like soap dishes, mirrored vanities, or small organizers appear intentional rather than cluttered. Stone colors adapt well to various lighting conditions; if the shade appears flat, incorporating pops of color and texture can enhance the space. Raw wood accents and leafy plants add warmth, while textured paint techniques—such as mixing in sand or applying paint with a sponge—can create dimensionality without overwhelming the decor. Finally, sea blue continues to be a popular choice, transforming bathrooms into daily seaside escapes. Sinclair observes that vintage aesthetics, reminiscent of old sports clubs and swimming pools, are referenced through light blues and yellows, which pair beautifully with glossy penny tile or mosaic grids. Sea blues impart a playful retro charm while maintaining an elevated feel. When combined with muted accessories and soft textiles, light blue walls create an inviting and breezy ambiance. Even deeper royal blues can serve as effective accents, particularly in smaller powder rooms. The key is to let the color itself convey the ocean theme, avoiding overt seashell motifs, as a thoughtful paint application can inherently evoke a sense of calm. #BathroomDesign #PaintColors #InteriorDesignTrends #HomeDecorating #Terracotta #GrassyGreens #OffWhite #StoneColors #SeaBlue #BathroomDesign #PaintColors #InteriorDesignTrends #HomeDecorating #Terracotta #GrassyGreens #OffWhite #StoneColors #SeaBlue
