Established & Sons Release Two Collaborations: ISLAND + Crate
Established & Sons, a British design brand known for its experimental approach to design, has unveiled two new collaborations at the London Design Festival. These new collections, ISLAND by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and an extension of Jasper Morrison’s Crate Series, highlight the brand's commitment to both skilled craftsmanship and modern manufacturing techniques, bringing diverse and innovative designs to the forefront.
ISLAND, designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, is a modular bench seating system conceptualized to foster relaxed social interactions, impromptu meetings, or provide a space for pausing and recharging. This system is particularly suitable for high-traffic public areas and transitional zones, where it can optimize space through its flexible configurations. The design allows for an infinite combination of colors, materials, and accessories, ensuring adaptability to various aesthetic and functional requirements. Each section of ISLAND is built upon a high-quality, sustainable steel frame and panels made from Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). The system offers options for upholstered seating for enhanced comfort, and users can add partitions, various sized tables, or a daybed to further customize the setup. Its modularity also ensures ease of disassembly and reassembly, facilitating relocation or deep cleaning, and promoting hygiene in public environments. The system's scalability means it can be expanded as needs evolve, making it a versatile solution for evolving spaces.
Simultaneously, Established & Sons has expanded Jasper Morrison’s Crate Series with five new pieces: an armchair, a daybed, and three variations of shelves. The Crate Series draws inspiration from the utilitarian design of a wine crate, embodying a philosophy of appreciated utility through its quality materials and practical usability. Morrison's design approach, as he articulated, moves away from creating visually sensational shapes solely for home decor magazines. Instead, he focuses on designing items that contribute to a positive atmosphere and pass the test of everyday functionality. The Crate Chair, for instance, features a bent tubular steel frame and an upholstered seam, prioritizing user comfort. The Crate Daybed is constructed with a durable frame of waxed solid yellow Pine and yellow Pine veneered plywood, complemented by a detachable mattress and various textile options for its flat and wedged cushions. The Crate Shelf No.1, No.2, and No.3 are designed for effortless functionality, offering strength and lightness, and are also manufactured from yellow Pine. The familiar yet adaptable proportions of these pieces encourage users to explore their full range of possibilities. Both collections demonstrate Established & Sons’ dedication to collaborating with leading designers to produce furniture that is both innovative and thoughtfully designed for contemporary living and public spaces.
