The Thompson Nashville is a 224-room hotel located in the Gulch, a LEED-certified mixed-use community situated between downtown Nashville and Music Row. This establishment marks the brand's first venture into the Southern United States and plays a role in solidifying the Gulch's reputation as a creative hub within Nashville's evolving urban landscape. The building's architectural design was executed by Hastings Architecture Associates, a local firm, which opted for a glass-dominated structure. New York-based Parts and Labor Design was responsible for the interior design, aiming to complement the modern architecture with a sophisticated, residential ambiance. The design approach by Parts and Labor Design moved beyond Nashville's traditional honky-tonk imagery, focusing instead on capturing the city's "young and culturally driven style." The intention was to create a laid-back and welcoming environment for both guests and local residents, positioning the Thompson Nashville as the city’s inaugural true lifestyle hotel. The design sought to celebrate Nashville's creative spirit while simultaneously offering a modern experience that is both timeless and fashion-forward. This blend of styles is evident throughout the hotel, starting with the lobby. The lobby features a distinctive wood-patterned and painted inlay floor created by local artist Patrick Hayes. This artwork, made from salvaged wood, incorporates the hotel’s geographical coordinates in brass. The lobby's aesthetic combines these traditional elements with towering 1970s-inspired bookshelves, concrete flooring, and a vintage turntable for playing vinyl records from Third Man Records. A mint green onyx check-in desk guides guests into the lobby lounge, where velvet sofas and reading nooks establish an intimate and warm living room atmosphere. The hotel's culinary offerings include Marsh House, a restaurant overseen by New Orleans chef John Besh. The transition from the lobby lounge to Marsh House is marked by a custom wood and glass partition that serves as a grand entry, maintaining a contemporary feel while incorporating classic elements. The restaurant's bar area is defined by a geometric-patterned custom floor in shades of gray, cream, and charcoal, complemented by a ceiling painted in high-gloss green. Beyond the bar, a screen made of greige white oak, glass, and nickel-plated steel leads to the dining room, which features cream hues against dark-toned leather and metal seating. In contrast to Marsh House, L.A. Jackson, Besh’s indoor-outdoor rooftop restaurant and bar, offers a lighter, breezier atmosphere. Its design incorporates images of palm tree leaves and vibrant tropical colors such as pink, purple, blue, and teal. Across all spaces, meticulous attention was paid to handcrafted details and the thoughtful combination of materials in custom furnishings. Guestrooms reflect a midcentury modern and 1970s aesthetic, with wood floors layered with custom rugs. Bathrooms feature black and white graphic floors, white tiles, and pentagon-shaped mirrors; suites also include clawfoot tubs. The guestroom design emphasizes a distinct residential feel. Entry closets were reconfigured to accommodate ottomans, and rooms are adorned with curated artwork. This thoughtful arrangement allows guests a moment of relaxation before fully entering the main living space. Local artwork throughout the hotel captures Nashville's energy, with walls showcasing hand-knit tapestries, credenzas, and gold foil pieces.
