At this Pilates studio in East London, discover an infrared sauna and a mother-of-pearl resin floor
Studio Anatomy, an East London Pilates studio founded by Lotti Benardout, has redefined the fitness experience by integrating thoughtful design with a holistic approach to wellness. The studio, which opened in 2022 as a dedicated Reformer Pilates space, expanded in October 2024 to include a Functional Fitness room and an infrared sauna, signaling a move towards a more comprehensive understanding of movement and recovery. Benardout's vision was to create a space that goes beyond just exercise, aiming to inspire, recharge, and genuinely care for individuals seeking mindful fitness.
Upon entering Studio Anatomy, visitors are greeted by an atmosphere of serenity, despite its location on a busy intersection in London Fields. The interior design draws inspiration from minimalist aesthetics blended with warm, inviting textures, reminiscent of designers like Vincent Van Duysen and fashion houses such as The Row and Khaite. The studio's design philosophy emphasizes understated elegance, simplicity, and quality, resulting in a timeless and inviting environment. Key design elements include gently curving arches, lime-plaster walls, bouclé couches, and terracotta tiles, which collectively transport the mind to a place of tranquility, even during an intense workout.
A distinctive feature of Studio Anatomy's design is the incorporation of raw, organic finishes and subtle details, such as mother-of-pearl embedded into the resin floors, which beautifully reflect natural light. The material palette includes pale timber, porous granite, seagrass weave baskets, and pearlescent tiles, creating a rich sensory experience. The front desk showcases an ever-changing seasonal floral display in a sculptural vase by local ceramicist Lucy Loewenberg, adding a touch of artistic flair. While natural light is prioritized, stylish wall sconces ensure the studio remains beautiful into the evening, facilitating dinners and workshops hosted by the team.
The Pilates classes are structured into Essentials, Signature, and Power tiers, catering to different fitness levels. The Essentials class provides an energetic yet non-intimidating introduction, with instructors offering support and corrections. Benardout encourages a sustainable approach to fitness, emphasizing consistency over intensity and advocating for routines that add energy and positivity rather than feeling like a chore. The integration of an infrared sauna complements the workout sessions, offering a space for relaxation and recovery, complete with well-appointed showers, fresh towels, and premium products. The changing rooms are also fully equipped with hair styling tools, ensuring clients can leave feeling refreshed and ready for their day. Studio Anatomy embodies a design-led approach to wellness, demonstrating how physical spaces can significantly contribute to mental and physical well-being.
