Brick, a prominent feature of Colonial architecture that had been largely removed over time, was reintroduced extensively in the kitchen. Rather than a mere accent, Moore chose to "engulf the entire kitchen in brick," applying it across all four surfaces, including window headers, the backsplash, and even the vent hood. To mitigate the potentially heavy feel of such widespread brick, Moore employed an overgrouting and curing technique that transformed the terracotta brick into a cool, misty white, reminiscent of limestone, making it both aesthetically pleasing and easy to maintain. To ensure the kitchen remained airy despite the extensive brickwork, Moore opted to remove upper cabinets, maximizing storage in bottom drawers and incorporating hidden island storage. She also designed a slim, solid brass shelf that wraps around the kitchen, spanning windows and connecting to the fridge, providing a display space for glassware and an indoor herb garden, catering to the homeowner's love for cooking with fresh herbs. The entryway, which previously offered an unappealing direct view into the kitchen, underwent a significant transformation. Moore blocked off the hallway to the kitchen, allowing the elegant original newel posts and staircase to become a focal point. The staircase was painted in Sherwin-Williams’s Iron Ore to enhance its prominence.
