'Stealing some ideas' people declare as woman shows off her hallway makeover
Ellie Munt from London achieved a significant hallway transformation, leveraging budget-friendly items from The Range and B&Q. The makeover, which she shared on Facebook, has garnered widespread attention and praise for its dramatic yet economical results. Before the renovation, the hallway featured an uninspired aesthetic, characterized by plain white walls, a gray chest of drawers, a standard coat rack, a white banister, and a simple gray stair runner.
Ellie's approach to revitalizing the space involved several key changes. She painted the staircase black and incorporated black paneling along the sides, introducing a modern and sophisticated touch. The original wood flooring was exposed after removing the existing stair runner, and a more stylish runner was installed. The main wall at the front of the hallway was updated with a wall panel purchased from B&Q, a retailer known for offering such panels at affordable prices, starting from around £47.
To complete the new look, Ellie added a large mirror, a smaller table, and various homeware accessories, including candles, which contributed to the overall ambiance. The black theme was consistently applied throughout the area, extending to a black and white wallpaper with a picturesque print installed beneath the staircase, as well as black radiators. The transformation successfully infused character and contemporary elegance into what was previously a drab and dated space.
Ellie documented her renovation process with before, during, and after photographs, which she posted in the "DIY On A Budget Official" Facebook group. The post quickly went viral within the DIY community, attracting over 400 likes and 127 comments from impressed members. Many expressed admiration for her creativity and resourcefulness, with some indicating their intention to adopt her ideas for their own home projects. Comments highlighted the beauty of the transformation, the appeal of the stair runner, and the striking wallpaper choice. The article also provides a list of ten DIY hacks under £1, offering readers additional ideas for affordable home improvements, such as homemade air fresheners, upcycled tin can planters, custom phone stands, and natural all-purpose cleaners, further emphasizing the theme of budget-conscious home enhancement.
