First impressions of the new Philips Hue Tento ceiling light
The Philips Hue Tento is an upcoming ceiling light model designed to offer a more affordable option within the Philips Hue ecosystem. This article provides an initial review based on personal impressions, focusing on its design, build quality, and installation features, ahead of its expected launch. Seven different models will be available in white and black finishes. European markets are anticipated to see the release of 42.1 cm and 54.2 cm diameter variants as early as next week. The smaller 29.1 cm version is slated for a mid-September launch, likely in the 38th calendar week. However, there is no confirmed launch date for countries outside the EU for this year. The pricing structure for the Hue Tento models is competitive, starting from 69.99€ for the 29.1 cm Hue Tento White, 89.99€ for the 29.1 cm White Ambiance model, and 109.99€ for the 29.1 cm White Ambiance and Colour version. Larger models with increased functionality are priced up to 199.99€.
A key design aspect of the Philips Hue Tento is its remarkably flat profile. The smallest model measures only 2.5 centimeters thick, while the larger versions are 3 to 3.5 centimeters thick. This slim design contributes to compact packaging, which helps in cost savings. The construction primarily utilizes plastic, noted for its solid craftsmanship and absence of perceived weaknesses, a pragmatic choice given that ceiling lights are rarely handled post-installation. A notable improvement over previous premium Philips Hue models is the simplified wiring process. The Hue Tento eliminates the need for a screwdriver, as cables are easily plugged into terminals, making installation more user-friendly.
In terms of lighting performance, the integrated LED strip provides consistent and even illumination. The brightness levels are robust, with the smallest model offering up to 2,250 lumens, the medium size up to 3,100 lumens, and the largest reaching up to 3,500 lumens. An aesthetically pleasing detail is the partially transparent top surface, which allows a subtle glow of light to extend towards the ceiling, adding an ambient accent to the room. Overall, the initial impressions of the Philips Hue Tento are highly positive, highlighting its value proposition through competitive pricing, sleek design, and improved installation convenience.
