The design strategy involved expanding the attic floor plan over a newly built mudroom on the main level to create sufficient room for a lounge area, closet, and bathroom within the bedroom suite. A key aspect of the renovation was the creation of a private, apartment-style feel. A new staircase was constructed, providing the boys with their own direct access to the bedroom, separate from other upstairs areas of the house. This architectural decision enhanced privacy while still keeping them connected to the family. To address the challenge of limited headroom in the attic, Taylor collaborated with Dale Peer of Dale Peer Home Designs to re-engineer the dormer roofline, ensuring adequate vertical space for the sleeping area. The sleeping arrangement features two twin beds positioned on either side of a large south-facing window. These beds are equipped with king-sized headboards extending along the walls and include pull-out trundles.
