The world’s first sustainable fully-integrated, plug-and-play, wall-mounted workstation and folding desk!
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered work patterns, leading to a rise in remote work. In response to this shift, English furniture-maker Pith & Stem has introduced the DropTop, a wall-mounted workstation designed to address the challenges and demands of working from home. This innovative product aims to enhance productivity, comfort, and work-life balance for remote employees.
The DropTop workstation is characterized by its fully integrated, plug-and-play design. It comes equipped with two 24-inch full-HD monitors and includes USB/USB-C cables for seamless connectivity with both Windows and Mac laptops. Below the monitors, there are two dedicated storage compartments for laptops and other small items, contributing to a tidy workspace. The desk itself is crafted from thick birch plywood, available in black or white satin finishes. Its front panel folds down to create a spacious 120 x 60 cm (47 x 24 in) desk surface, supported by robust, custom-designed hinges.
Stefan Husanu, CEO of Pith & Stem and designer of the DropTop, emphasizes the environmental, social, and economic benefits of working from home. He acknowledges that while remote work has many advantages, some individuals have found it challenging due to discomfort, lack of proper tools, or difficulty in separating work from personal life. The DropTop is presented as a solution to these obstacles, designed to make home-working productive, comfortable, and stylish while also having a positive environmental impact.
The workstation's design prioritizes practicality and ergonomics, promoting healthy posture during extended work sessions. Constructed from high-grade hardwood ply with custom-made hinges, it is built for durability. Furthermore, the DropTop is made with FSC-certified birch plywood, highlighting its ethical and sustainable credentials. A significant feature is its customization options, allowing users to choose from various wood finishes for the exterior walls and desktop, such as ash and walnut. Customers can also select monitors from leading brands like Philips, LG, and AOC. A unique aesthetic element is the ability to personalize the external facade with a large photograph, either from a pre-selected range or by submitting a personal image for printing. This feature allows the workstation to blend seamlessly into the home environment, discreetly hidden behind artwork when not in use.
Installation of the DropTop is straightforward, and it can be folded away easily at the end of the day, featuring a lock for privacy and a removable power lead. This design ensures that the workstation is available when needed and out of sight when not, making it an ideal space-saving solution for home offices. The DropTops are custom-made to order in the UK, with pricing for a base model starting at £1,099 (approximately US$1,500), varying based on the level of customization selected. Overall, the DropTop aims to provide a high-performance, customizable, and efficient solution for the modern home-working landscape.
