Milan Design Week 2025 is scheduled to take place from April 8th to 13th, with designboom providing a comprehensive guide to the events, exhibitions, and installations. The event is anchored by Salone del Mobile and will feature a mix of design, architecture, and innovation across Milan. Designboom, founded in Milan in 1999, will offer exclusive coverage and activations, including an Instagram takeover by Philippe Starck on April 7th, showcasing his favorite Milanese spots and latest collaborations. Designboom is also collaborating with Highsnobiety’s Not In Milan for a special showcase at MAGMA, focusing on table lamp designs, spanning historical reissues, reinvented icons, and contemporary approaches.
Another significant event is the MCM and Pet Therapy collaboration at Giardino delle Arti, launching a pet-friendly furniture collection and hosting a panel discussion moderated by designboom on April 9th, exploring the connection between design, pets, and human interaction. Formafantasma, in conjunction with Cassina, will present “Staging Modernity” at Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber, an installation and theatrical performance celebrating 60 years of Cassina’s Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand Collection. This project merges design, philosophy, and performance to question Modernist ideals against contemporary ecological considerations. Saint Laurent, curated by Anthony Vaccarello, will exhibit four rare furniture designs by Charlotte Perriand, reissued for the first time, at Padiglione Visconti.
Philippe Starck will also contribute “WAR FLAGS,” an immersive installation at the Orto Botanico di Brera, reflecting on future global conflicts. Hermès will unveil new interior collections at La Pelota with a setting designed by Charlotte Macaux Perelman and Alexis Fabry. The Balvenie, in collaboration with Dr. Samuel Ross, will debut “TRANSPOSITION,” an immersive sculptural environment at The Old Foundry, exploring the future of hospitality through industrial craft and natural elements. Prada Frames, curated by Formafantasma, returns for its fourth edition, “In Transit,” a symposium discussing infrastructure's role in shaping movement, held at historical locations like the Arlecchino train and Padiglione Reale.
DRIFT, in partnership with Audi, will present “Drift Us,” an experiential installation at Audi House of Progress, exploring the transformative power of wind. Salone del Mobile.Milano's 63rd edition will focus on the connections between humanity and design, featuring Euroluce, Robert Wilson's “Mother” installation, and the "Thought for Humans" communication campaign. Fuorisalone 2025 adopts the theme "Mondi Connessi" (Connected Worlds), exploring design's interactivity in a hyper-connected era, with over 290 events in the Brera Design District. Moscapartners Variations at Palazzo Litta will explore migration as a force for cultural innovation, with a site-specific installation by Byoung Soo Cho titled "Nobody Owns the Land: Earth, Forest, Mahk." Isola Design Festival’s 9th edition, themed “Design is Human,” will highlight social impact and environmental responsibility at BasicVillage and VIAFARINI.
Other notable exhibitions include Masterly – The Dutch in Milano at Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, Alcova expanding across four locations in Varedo, and 5VIE Design Week presenting “Invisible Harmonies.” Doppia Firma – Double Signature Project will continue to celebrate the fusion of design and craftsmanship at Villa Mozart. Artemest's “L’Appartamento” will showcase Italian craftsmanship at Palazzo Donizetti, and Capsule Plaza will explore “Expanded Living” across Spazio Maiocchi and new venues in Porta Venezia. House of Switzerland Milano will highlight Swiss creativity and collaboration. IKEA returns with “Do Something. Change Everything.” and unveils the new STOCKHOLM collection, while Google debuts “Making the Invisible Visible,” an immersive exhibition on light, space, and technology. OBJECT CARPET will present the “MEDITERRANEO” outdoor carpet collection at GAM - Galleria d’Arte Moderna, and Rockwell Group will showcase "Casa Cork," an immersive installation dedicated to sustainable design.
