New shrubs from Proven Winners® ColorChoice®
Proven Winners® ColorChoice® has introduced a selection of new shrubs for 2017, focusing on unique characteristics and improved garden performance. These introductions include a variety of plants suitable for different landscaping needs, from vibrant foliage and abundant berries to disease-resistant flowers and compact growth habits.
Pearl Glam® Beautyberry Callicarpa is highlighted for its year-round appeal, starting with dark purple foliage in spring and transitioning to white flowers in late summer, which then produce hundreds of violet-purple berries. This plant offers extended seasonal interest, distinguishing it from other beautyberry varieties that primarily display autumn color.
Purple Pillar™ Rose of Sharon Hibiscus is presented as a novel solution for narrow spaces, growing as a columnar plant that reaches 10-16 feet tall while maintaining a slender 2-3 foot width. Its upright growth makes it ideal for screens, hedges, or container planting on patios, providing color and privacy without occupying excessive lateral space.
The Oso Easy® Urban Legend™ Rose joins a popular series of disease-resistant landscape roses. It features true-red, semi-double flowers that bloom from early summer until the first hard frost, complemented by a crown of yellow stamens. The dark green, glossy foliage of this rose is noted for its resistance to common issues like powdery mildew and black spot, ensuring a healthier and more attractive plant.
Incrediball® Blush Hydrangea expands the Incrediball series with its new blush-pink blooms. Known for their strong stems and large flowers, this variety produces massive blush-pink blooms that mature to an appealing green. Its robust stems are capable of supporting the heavy flowers even after rain, making it an excellent choice for cut flower arrangements.
Let's Dance® Rave™ Hydrangea is introduced as a next-generation reblooming hydrangea, offering improved flower color and attractive foliage. This variety is a reliable bloomer, producing abundant, intensely colored flowers that can range from violet-purple in acidic soils to saturated pink in basic soils.
Tiny Wine® Gold Ninebark Physocarpus stands out with its bright yellow new growth and compact size, making it suitable for perennial gardens and foundation plantings. It produces clusters of white-pink flowers in late spring and is characterized by its small, refined foliage. This easy-care shrub is disease-resistant and native to North America.
Low Scape® Mound Chokeberry Aronia is a low-growing, groundcover shrub that provides continuous beauty from spring through frost. It features glossy green foliage, hundreds of delicate white flowers in spring, and brilliant red autumn leaves that contrast with dark purple-black fruit. Its unique mounding habit makes it perfect for mass planting or as an edging plant.
Finally, Invincibelle® Spirit II Hydrangea represents an enhanced version of the original, with darker foliage, stronger stems, and larger, richer pink flowers that eventually turn green. This strong rebloomer produces an abundance of pink flowers throughout summer and into fall. A portion of the proceeds from each sale of Invincibelle® Spirit II is donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.
