HGTV Fans Have the Same Question about the ‘Castle Impossible’ Bathroom
The HGTV show 'Castle Impossible' features Daphne Reckert and Ian Figueira undertaking the extensive renovation of a 500-year-old French castle. After addressing a bedroom and a living space, the couple turned their attention to a crucial area: the bathroom. Daphne described the existing bathroom as the "worst room in the chateau," explaining that the original marble installations were structurally unsound, causing cracks in the beams of the rooms below. The removal of the heavy marble bathtub required the efforts of five people and a crane, a process Ian described as "devastating."
The couple aimed to transform the 195-square-foot space, which includes a secret passageway to an adjacent bedroom, into a luxurious bathing chamber. A key design element was to capitalize on the garden view. Daphne's friend, artist Chelsea Leigh, contributed by designing and painting a mural. Ian, demonstrating resourcefulness, restored a rust-covered cast-iron tub found in a shed to usable condition.
Upon the completion of the renovation, HGTV shared a clip of the finished bathroom on Instagram, drawing significant praise from viewers for its aesthetics, including the blue shade, mural, flooring, and the restored bathtub. However, a recurring question emerged in the comments section regarding the absence of a shower, WC (toilet), vanity, and sink within the depicted space. Viewers repeatedly asked, "Where's the rest of the bathroom-shower/ WC/ vanity and sink?" and "Where is the shower and rest of the bathroom - next door? Is it working now too?"
Daphne and Ian addressed these inquiries, clarifying that the other facilities were located "on the left side of the room." Daphne further elaborated on their design philosophy during the episode, stating that centering the bath in the room offered a unique and luxurious feature with an amazing garden view and a gorgeous chandelier. She drew inspiration from 17th and 18th-century chateaus, where bathing chambers were distinct from toilet facilities, often involving servants boiling water in fireplaces for the tubs. This historical context informed their decision to create a dedicated "bathing chamber" that focused solely on the bathing experience, thereby eliminating the need to incorporate a toilet within that specific room.
Beyond the bathroom design, viewers also noted a striking resemblance between Ian and celebrity Josh Groban, leading to humorous comments about his "doppelgänger." Ian and Daphne playfully responded by calling him "Gosh Jorban."
