My Brilliant Trick to Keeping My Shower Clean and Mold-Free Costs Only $1

The author recently experienced a persistent mold problem in their bathroom shower due to a broken casement window, which hindered proper ventilation. This lack of airflow prevented the tile from drying quickly after showers, creating an ideal environment for mold growth. The author recognized the need for a more effective exhaust fan but, in the interim, sought an immediate solution to combat the mold and maintain bathroom cleanliness. After some research, the author discovered that hydrogen peroxide, a common and inexpensive household item, could effectively address this issue. The cleaning method involves storing hydrogen peroxide in a dark-colored spray bottle to maintain its stability. The author purchased a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution for just $1.29 from Target. Once transferred to the dark spray bottle, the solution is sprayed directly onto the tile and grout in the shower. It is crucial to let the hydrogen peroxide sit for at least 10 minutes to allow it to work effectively. Throughout this process, ensuring the room is well-ventilated is important, especially since the author's window was broken; they kept the bathroom door open and used the existing exhaust fan. After the waiting period, the treated surfaces are wiped clean with a sponge. Hydrogen peroxide is an effective and economical cleaning agent because it can safely clean and disinfect various surfaces. While it was once commonly used for cleaning cuts and scrapes, medical experts now advise against this due to its irritating effect on the skin. However, its disinfecting properties make it ideal for household cleaning, particularly in bathrooms. The author notes that hydrogen peroxide is gentler than many chemical-based cleaners, such as bleach-based products, and, unlike some harsher alternatives, it does not produce unpleasant odors. It's important to never mix hydrogen peroxide with vinegar, as this combination can produce peracetic acid, a corrosive and harmful substance. However, they can be used sequentially. The author observed immediate and positive results after using hydrogen peroxide on their shower. The solution's fizzing action indicated its effectiveness, and after wiping, the tile looked and felt as clean as when it was first installed. The author also applied hydrogen peroxide to the shower head, noting a significant improvement in its appearance, almost as good as new. The cost-effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide is highlighted, with four bottles costing roughly the same as one bottle of bleach cleaner, making it an attractive long-term cleaning solution. Proper storage of hydrogen peroxide is crucial to maintain its efficacy. It must be kept in an opaque, dark-colored bottle, as exposure to sunlight can cause the solution to lose its extra oxygen molecule, rendering it ineffective and turning it into plain water. The author recommends testing an old bottle of hydrogen peroxide by checking if it fizzes when sprayed; if not, it's time for a new one. This simple, affordable trick provides an efficient way to keep showers clean and mold-free. #ShowerCleaning #MoldPrevention #HydrogenPeroxide #BathroomMaintenance #BudgetCleaning #HomeCareTips #CleaningHacks #ShowerCleaning #MoldPrevention #HydrogenPeroxide #BathroomMaintenance #BudgetCleaning #HomeCareTips #CleaningHacks
