The Berkeley Tudor: A Tour Through Fort Worth Designer Tori Rubinson's Latest, Lavish Project
The Berkeley Tudor, a recent full-home design project by Fort Worth designer Tori Rubinson, exemplifies a successful integration of modern elements within a traditional aesthetic. The home's entry sets the tone with a palette of creams, soft greens, and blues, featuring Tudor-inspired millwork, an antique entry table, a custom skirted entry console with an antique mirror, and modern blush abstract art, all grounded by an antique rug. The open-concept family room features a raised, coffered ceiling that enhances its spaciousness. An antique mantel, custom built-ins, and creamy white millwork are complemented by layered textiles, creating a harmonious mix. The kitchen's design incorporates a backsplash of gray subway tiles and scalloped marble, with a hood painted to match the millwork and accented with brass inset strips. Modern brass lighting and hardware maintain a contemporary feel, while counter stools with vinyl cushions and perennial backs offer practicality and ease of cleaning.
A dedicated room draws inspiration from an emerald lamp, leading to the use of emerald green in the trim color and window treatment tape. The walls are adorned with an aqua and ivory stripe wallpaper by Schumacher. The furnishings combine new pieces with antiques, and a prominent chandelier makes a significant style statement. The master bathroom began with marble vessel sinks, paired with reeded modern vanities. Modern brass hardware, wall-mounted faucets, and sconces complement the setup. The marble floors feature a contemporary pattern, and leaded glass serves as a nod to the home's Tudor architecture.
The master bedroom's design is influenced by two heirloom paintings, resulting in a striking and chic ambiance. Custom-made nightstands by CEH and a Hickory Chair bed are central to the room. Elegant bedding, modern lamps, and framed intaglios above the bed enhance the navy grass cloth walls, contributing to the room’s bold character. The guest bedroom provides a soft and serene retreat, with a floral and bird fabric by Katie Leede as its starting point, coordinated with an Oushak rug from French Market Collection. A custom-made headboard and bed skirt are paired with ivory linen-wrapped nightstands from Made Goods, chosen for their suitability in smaller spaces.
The game room, situated at the top of the stairs, caters to grandchildren with custom built-ins for games, books, and puzzles. Wallpaper from Quadrille, a green velvet sofa from Simple Things, and whimsical-patterned armchairs create a playful yet comfortable space. A contemporary light fixture, a burlwood coffee table, patterned blue carpet, custom window treatments, and a mahogany Asian-style TV console complete the room's design.
